Default Question about Quarantine

So as you all know, Jay is in quarantine right now (two weeks this Thursday he's been here).

I just wanted to make sure I have it right in my head about the next steps.

So in theory, when it gets to 5 weeks, I can take Jay's cage upstairs and put them next to one another so they can say hello.

Then once they seem happy with one another, I can let them meet in neutral ground and they pick their new cage.

I'm so excited about letting them meet one another, I have it set in my phones calendar when I can introduce them.

So far, Jay is settling in really well. He has a very slightly wet droppings when we first arrived but since the first day or two, they have been normal. He's settled in well and he's a little quieter than Jimmy is but he's starting to speak a little more than he first did.

I welcome any advice and tips anyone has to share.

Sounds like a good plan. I also take the bird in quarantine to the vet for an initial exam near the end of the quarantine period. The vet runs tests on the droppings and does blood tests to rule out anything that may not be apparent.

Sometimes people will leave the cages next to each other for a couple of days or so. This allows the two budgies to get used to one another by them interacting through the bars of the cages before they are introduced in neutral territory.

Sometimes budgies will take to each other right away while others the budgies may need a couple of "meetings" before they decide they want to hang out with one another.

Cody's advice regarding having a well-budgie check up is always a good idea.

So.... what is the date Jay and Jimmy get to meet?

Yes, I really want them to get along and am so worried they might end up fighting. As I've ordered the new bigger cage to move them both into eventually, I was planning to sell both the other ones (I have another spare cage for like emergency vet trips... which is smaller) but then I thought I should keep one because if I need split them up, I wouldn't be able to house them properly.

So yeah, moving into the same room date is....24th September. That'll be 5 weeks.

I'm curious to see how it goes for them..... anxious and excited!!!

I really doubt they will fight. Most young males get along just fine and I believe both Jimmy and Jay are going to be thrilled to have a little buddy to play with!

You'll need to be prepared for a little "bickering" because that is normal. Even budgies that are already best of friends sometimes have little spats and within a few minutes all is forgotten and they are playing as if nothing ever happened.

The 24th will be here before you know it!

Yeah, I know realistically that they will be fine and probably love it when they have a chance to get together but I do worse case scenarios so I'm prepared for everything.

And thankfully I've seen budgies interacting so I know how they can seem so I shouldn't freak out too quickly if they have a little squabble. But if I do, I can always come here and freak out anyway!
