Default Ducky can't fly as well?

Hey! So lately (the past few weeks) Ducky hasn't been let out as much as she used to be. I'm at the end of my last year in high school (there's around 3 weeks left) and it's just started getting pretty stressful. So anyway, I've noticed she hasn't been flying as well and it's making me feel really bad! she's always been a bit funny with flying, but now when she tries to make it across the other side of the room she starts getting lower and lower towards the floor. could the fact that she hasn't been let out as often be contributing to this? unless she's overweight or something... or could it be some sort of sickness? i'm just really worried!

Also, one question i've been wondering for a while now is how much should a budgie weigh? She's not an english budgie but she's a little bigger than most wild-type budgies, so it's pretty confusing.

If she hasn't been getting much flying, her wing muscles are probably weak, and most likely according to your description is overweight. Most non show budgies are in the thirties when it comes to gram weight. Have you weighed her ? Lot's of good nutritional info her at the forum, maybe a slight diet change and some added flight time will slim her down and get her flying stronger....

Thank you! i'll be giving her a lot more flight time now, so hopefully that'll help. i've weighed her a couple of times but she's super skittish so it's not easy. I'm fairly sure she's overweight though - without even having to weigh her.

Ducky is most probably needing more out of cage time and interaction and playing. As I noted in your other thread I am sure with the diet and more out of cage time she will start to get some fitness back and lose some weight as well. Weighing her regularly is a good idea, next time you are at the avian vet ask them to show you where the keel bone is and how it helps tell a budgies weight. Also look at the wing muscles again ask the vet to show you.

I agree with Randy and Cathy.

The more exercise/flight time Ducky gets, the stronger and healthier she will be.

Just like people, when budgies eat too much or don't eat the healthiest foods and don't get enough exercise, it affects them both mentally and physically.
