Crusoe, my year and half old baby boy has recently started doing something very peculiar. He never really cared for my fingers, he didn't fear them, he just didn't care to be held. Well recently, I put my finger on a far end of his cage an d lightly tapped it up and down. All the sudden, Crusoe, who is generally shy, began singing and dancing and came over to my tapping finger. He sung and tapped on it with his beak. He'll climb on and start to bite the finger he is perched on. If I raise my thumb, he'll nibble at it and continue to sing. He doesn't seem upset, and when I put him down and move my hand away. He runs to the spot it was in and sits quietly, looking for my finger, when he sees it, he starts to dance and sing again. Is he playing? Or showing anger in a very odd way???
From your description he is playing and is in a very good mood, the tapping he does on your finger is in fact little birdie kisses. If he also happens to gently nibble your finger or hand, you'll know he is preening you, these are all signs of affection, your Crusoe loves you and sees you as part of his flock.
Biting from displeasure is very different in both behaviour and from the impact of the bite itself on us (a strong bit hurts).
RIP sweet Tito (Summer 2008 - January 17th 2013).
You are missed and never will be forgotten.
