Default What would work best?

Hi all,

considering my budgie future.
Jimmy and Jay are cage mates.
Sage and Sunny are.... well, they're sharing a cage, lol! They are very female about it.

The plan is to introduce the females slowly to the males when they come out of quarantine.

I don't know how they will react when they are all together but have considered that they may need to have a male and female split into a cage each.

Thinking about Skye and if he were to ever move into the same room as them, what pairing would be best for him if he were to cohabit with a male and female budgie? Another female so there are two pairs or a male (which would make three males to one female!)?

If it were me, I'd wait and see how the males/females do together before even thinking about the "what if" Skye moves into the room scenario.

Just take things one step at a time.

If Jimmy, Jay, Sage and Sunny all do well in a cage together you'll have one scenario.

If they don't all four do well in one cage and you pair male/female in separate cages (And I do NOT think Jimmy and Jay will be happy about that) then you have a different scenario to consider.

Hmmm, seems I remember a similar question asked about this previously and my answer to that is below

The females may decide to compete for one of the boys
The females may try to boss the boys around
The females may ignore the boys

As you can see, there are lots of possibilities and no way of knowing ahead of time.

Be sure to have the cages next to one another for a few days before introducing the females to the males in neutral territory.

If you aren't pleased with the dynamics of having all four in one cage after you try them that way, then you can keep the two females in one cage and the boys in another.

It's the females that worry me.... I'm a worrier, in case you can't tell.

Whereas Jimmy and Jay do get on, the females are just.... there, in a cage together and I worry about how it'll change when they all live together.

I'll do some deep breathing exercises and try not to worry about it for a while.
