Default Budgie cage bar spacing

Hi everyone I wonder if someone can give me some advise..
I want to buy my budgie a new cage I want to buy the biggest I can get but I'm worried about the bar spacing I originally bought a big cage and he just got straight out through the bars he is a small lacewing budgie not a show type budgie that are quite a bit bigger, he isn't in the cage very much as he has a gym he likes to perch on and he comes round the house with me on my shoulder!
but when I go out I always put him away as I think it's dangerous to leave him out if I'm not in as he does like to get up to mischief .. I will be really grateful if someone can tell me the safest bar size thank you

The maximum bar spacing for a budgie cage is 1/2 inch (13mm) ideally the cage will have both horizontal and vertical bars

I agree with Pete.

It is very important the bar spacing be no greater than 1/2 inch.

This is a nice cage for one budgie.

Internal cage dimensions 89cm height, 80cm wide and 52cm deep
Bar Spacing 10mm

We'd love to see the new cage you chose for your budgie once you have it home, all set up and he's moved in!

Thank you for all your help I will put a photo on of him on his new cage and I will look at that link as trying to find a good quality large cage is quite difficult
