Default Very loud boy - advice?

Hi all!

Dougie is coming up to his first hatch day!

I've noticed in the past couple of weeks that he seems to have adjusted his volume for chirping in the day to maximum! It's so loud that it actually hurts my ear drums! I love Dougie but sometimes this noise really gets to me as its louder than everything - including the TV and he is now extending his hyperness into the evening where before he would settle down with the sun.

Is this to do with his age and it's something he'll grow out of?

Any tips to encourage him to use a more ear friendly volume?

Thanks

You can interpret the volume of your Dougie's singing just by how happy and excited he is. When he is most happy and excited that's when the volume gets louder. It's not so much an age thing, it's more about the exuberant way budgies express themselves when everything is right in their world and they are healthy and feel very happy. And during night time, you can help Dougie to settle into sleep by covering his cage as his bedtime approaches.

Taking measures in order to decrease their singing to me is not the right thing to do. I am against purposely scaring them to silence, or covering them during the day in hopes of decreasing singing. That can have serious effects on the budgies behaviour and lead to depression and other health issues.

I have 8 budgies and 6 lovebirds and can't imagine my life without their exuberantly happy singing. Listening to their "noise" and sound volume to me means they are healthy and happy and that in turn makes me very happy too.
Silence and lack of chirping is not a good sign for a pet bird owner.

If the noise made just by your Dougie is so overwhelming to you, maybe some earplugs can be helpful to muffle the loud singing.

I agree with aluz!

I have three budgies and three lovebirds who all like to chirp as loudly as possible and I LOVE it!

Earplugs are always a good option if Dougie's volume really bothers you.
