Default They are doing great

Hello Everyone!
Well Oz has become a happy healthy budgie and I really believe it is because of Charlie. The best thing I did was get Oz Charlie and all is so good between them, they sleep , eat, play, nap and seem very happy together

I only have a few concerns I try very often to let them out to play or just get out of their home and they never take advantage of that. seems they have no interest in coming out of their nicely done BIG home. I used to clip their wings but since they show no interest in coming out I don't clip them now I figure why stress them when I do not need to....

I also put a play gym out(with millet as a incentive to come out) and I leave the door open and they never come close to investigating, when I clean their home they seem happy waiting in their house until its cleaned, I take the top off the bottom and they just watch, If I take them out and they see their cage they fly right back to it and go in.

they seem very happy and they have plenty of toys and play often and they hop around and even mumble or sing alot Oz is not scared of me at all, Charlie is a but timid but if I get them out I can handle them but they seem to look for their house and if they see it, they fly back and go in.
I just wonder if its "ok" for them to live life in their home 100% of the time.

They do get clean water 2x a day and food, treats and a good housecleaning ( 2x a day) so perhaps they just like being spoiled!!!

they do seem very happy... and lastly, I got them interested in corn on the cob............. thats the only veggie they eat I have to cut it and poke a hole in it and hang it with a zip tie ( it looks like a wheel) otherwise they wont eat it..... I am very happy that these 2 are happy I do wish they would eat other veggies I try with no luck............. and I appreciate everyone here in the forum

Hi, Mark!

It's wonderful that Oz and Charlie are doing so well.

They sound like they have everything they want in their nice big cage and don't feel the urge to explore the world outside it. That's just fine.

Leaving the door to the cage open when you are there to supervise to allow them the opportunity to come out if they so desire is fine.
If they choose to do so, that's great and if not, well -- that's great too!

Not everybudgie feels the need to fly around the house and explore.
Since your budgies have a nice huge cage to play in, they can get plenty of exercise right inside their very own kingdom.

Have you tried giving them fresh basil or cilantro?
Many budgies like the "spicer" tasting herbs.
You might also try dandelion leaves - they are bitter and that often appeals to budgies as well.

It's great to read your update and see the new picture.
Your little ones are looking very healthy and happy!

Have you tried Kale? My birds love it, were a little skeptical of it at first, but it seems to disappear somehow now

I agree with Deborah, they are no doubt loving their luxurious penthouse with all the amenities and have no desire to visit an uncertain outdoors

I think you have provided so much for your budgie friends that they are more than happy to stay in their luxurious cage. I agree that just giving them the option of having some time to come out if they wish too is the best way to work. They may get curious and decide to explore something but they may be happy just to sit and stay i there cage.

I didn't have great luck with veggies to start with. It's find the way that your birds like to eat them. I tried chopping bits up in a dish, on the cage floor, but what my guys really like is a few whole leaves on top of their cage. Some times they eat it in the cage, sitting on their swings, and sometimes they come out and eat it.
So far, I have got mine to try curly kale, spinach and parsley. So keep trying and I'm sure you birds will find something they like.

Very much the newbie here, but maybe something that has worked for me will work for you. Mine love fresh grass stalks that have gone to seed, I give it to them still green and they will do just about anything for it. I left it out of the cage one day and it didn't take them long to pluck up the courage to try and get to it. Beauty climbed and walked her way there, while Adam flew over once he noticed his girl getting all the good grub. They also are far more ready to try other green foods I put in there since, they love baby spinach leaves, kale, rocket and endive the most but have started exploring foods like apple and strawberry lately. I think the grass really helped them get used to other foods and not just seeds and millet sprays, you just have to make sure that you get it from some where you can be 100% positive there will be no residue from weed sprays or pesticides. Your birds sound adorable, and they seem to have it made, I am not surprised they don't feel the need to leave

I have a perch attached on the outside of the cage next to the door, my guys love sitting here as they can then go in easily or take off. Perhaps place the corn near the open door and have a perch there for them. My budgies love fresh grass as well, also basil, thyme, parsley, carrot just keep offering it to them. You have done a wonderful job!
