Question Budgie eating his shredder toy?




So, I have this homemade shredder toy I made using a tutorial, it's just some thin white rope tied together and unraveled so Quinn can preen/shred it if he wants. Butů I've realized that it seems Quinn is actually eating it? He's nibbling off bits of it, I can't tell if he's swallowing them but he seems to be chewing them, in any case. Should I remove the toy, or is that just how shredder toys work? Thanks in advance!

You need to remove the toy at once.

When budgie's ingest cotton fibers it can cause impaction of the crop.

Additionally, Quinn could easily get his foot, caught in the threads and severely injure himself.
Budgies have also had a thread get wrapped around their neck and have strangled to death.

A proper shredder toy is one that is made from natural materials such as wood,wicker, corn husks, yucca, etc. such as the ones shown below:
