Default Biting hen!!!! Ouch!!!!

So we got our budgie, Rio, in May and she has been great! I believe she is in "condition" because her cere is brown.....I still have a lot to learn on this subject! I know their behavior can change while in condition! Recently Rio loves to bite and it can hurt if she gets you in a soft part of your skin. I have read many things to get them to stop but some of these things don't work especially if she's on my shoulder....she loves to get me on the neck. I've read to gently shake them if they're on your finger to gently throw them off balance or gently blow on them. I've also read not to react but sometimes it really hurts and I can't help but cry out. Maybe I'm just impatient but I'm hoping for more suggestions on what I can do. Friday she was sweet as can be and today she's picking on me!

Many times when a budgie is coming into condition and/or has hit the "teenage" phase they go through a period of biting.

You can try distracting her with a toy when she decides you'd make a nice snack.

I'd try some positive reinforcement training and consider starting clicker training with him.

Oh My... Biting can be the WORST! But it just taking Patience and Love. I once fostered a Yellow Head Amazon that had been abused for 14 years and never taken out of her cage... You need to be confident in your movements and feelings. She took almost a year to get to come out of the cage and feel safe. One day while watching tv and laying on the couch with her on my chest, I moved my hand too fast near her and a second later I had a hole straight through my fingernail. It wasn't her fault but mine. My Budgie is a Nibbler and loves playing a bit rough but he knows it is just play when he grabs my finger. (Not Hard) and then a second later he is preening me. I don't condone rough play and biting as it can be a nasty habit to break. Blowing on the Face is something that has worked for me.

Everything will work out in the end.

Let's hope it is indeed just a phase she is going through! The bite of a budgie is no laughing matter Norm My vet actually told me Fifo who is a male by the way has the hardest bite of any Budgie she has seen OUCH.
Perhaps wearing some gloves may help, Otherwise Sorry.

Well, my little girl went through a rough teenager phase in which she also was super bitey like Rio, when all else failed (distraction, etc.) I would put her back in her cage on a perch and walk away without another word. As our bond grew she realised that she was pushing me away by biting and as she conquered her angsty teen emotions she grew to stop biting (most of the time )
