Default Lemony and her ongoing saga

Thanks to everyone who has 'listened' to my woes about Ms. Lemony. She is one very determined little hen.. she wants to lay eggs. Here's what she's done over the past two weeks:
1. I have... err.. had.. a pretty little basket where I keep odds and ends.. bird supplies.. my clips and stuff.. Unbeknownst to me, she found a way to get on that shelf, behind and around a corner, and remove the entire backside of that basket, so when I picked it up today.... whooosh, all on the floor. I am lucky she did not die from ingesting this. (It is a small basket).
2. One egg presented to us last week and egg 2 this morning.

I made an appointment quite a while ago with the avian vet, and it is tomorrow!! HURRAY...
I will post his recommendations when I have them.. I am so excited to get her some help. Laying these eggs cannot be healthy for her.

Judy,

Was the little basket made of wicker?
If so, Lemony chewing on it really wasn't much different than destroying a shredder toy.

I'm sorry your girl is so determined to lay and am very glad her appointment is tomorrow.

I'll be looking forward to hearing the vet's recommendations.

Best wishes!

Great! I'm really glad you now have an Avian Vet in the area. It will be good for you to develop a ongoing relationship so you'll have someone to turn to if the budgies' need treatment.

May I suggest you make a list of all the questions you have, (not only about Lemony but about any of the others as well) so you don't forget to ask anything while you are there?

Are you taking PJ in tomorrow at the same time?

Oh my, our tenacious Lemony seems quite determined to be a mommy and she's like "I'm a God created woman and by golly Im gonna lay my eggs as nature intended and nothing is gonna stop me from my maternal duties, as God is my witness!" - spoken like Scarlett Ohara

So glad she's finally able to see the vet and best wishes for our pistol gal

Lemony, what a rascal you are!

She certainly has got her mommy fever badly again

I'm glad she's going to see a vet and I'm sure he'll give you a good recommendation

Please keep us posted!

Lemony met her new vet today... (and very handsome, she says. I swear I caught her preening just for him ). I found he is not yet board certified.. we have ZERO certified Avian vets in all of Eastern Washington. Unbelievable. Anyway... What was the most awesome part is how gentle he was with my little goofball. She only bit him once! Then she settled right down.
OK.. here's what he said.
1. She is eggnant with egg #3, probably will come tonight. Since she usually only has one or two, he thinks she is going to go ahead with a whole clutch. (common pattern, I guess?)
2. She is a tiny girl... with the egg, she weighed 35g. OOPS!.. he said the egg was probably 1.5g. Miss Lemony is a bit too 'curvy'. (at her other vet visit last year, she was 31.5)... sigh.
3. He said treatments like Lupron only address symptoms and we need to treat the cause of her revved up brain telling her to reproduce.. So
== Giving Calcium Glubionate syrup via a teeny little oral syringe twice daily. OH.BOY. for me. I'm sure she is going to be a happy girl about this. I'm to give it for 2 weeks after the last egg.
== INCREASING her light time! Only 8 hours dark time.. for a while.
== Keeping her boyfriend out of hearing range. Easier said than done.
== Suspending the ACV for now.
== Guess what? She eats too many seeds and not enough pellets. I know, I know. So... amping up efforts to fix it and reduce total food. He said no more than 15% of seeds and FRUIT. Lots of veggies. And the pellets. Likes the usual recommended brands.. Harrison's, Zupreem, Roudybush.
Much more, but the brain is on overload... Love having a knowledgeable avian vet... very cool!

Hooray ! This sounds like a great plan albeit a bit of a drama for you Judy , I like the fact he is wanting to get to the heart of the matter and not simply give out a cover up. Way to go of course we will be watching for up dates on as how things are going .
