Red face Our new re-homed female is here!

Hey all!

For those who have seen a few of my posts, I have re-homed a female budgie from my cousin. I already have Pepi who I re-homed when my nan passed away this March. Hes a happy go lucky bird, hes getting better at trusting but allows me to stroke his chest and feed him. This is Pepi -

Today the new arrival came with the help of my mum. She was visiting my other nan and went by my cousins house to pick up the new female. She is VERY angry. She tells me off when I go near the cage, when I filled her food and water up, when I got up off the sofa etc etc. Here she is, cousin named her Jay but I am not sure it suits her, what do you think?

She is in a HUGE cage , much bigger than Pepi's. When they have settled etc and I start having them side by side in the cages, I shall try to introduce them into the big cage. I have read so much information and I would like to thank everyone on here! Its going to take a while so no rushing. Its time for Jay to get comfy and for Pepi to realise theres a female here

She certainly is a gorgeous looking bird, I'm sure she will calm down when she settles in, incidentally Kira I would be using the quarantine period to not only bond with her but to treat her with ivermectin and possibly worm her aswell, treating her now will get it out of the way leaving more time for you both to bond.

Pepper is a cute name. I am going to give her a few days and make a list of a few names. I love my Twilight and other films/books so a strong fiesty female character I think is needed for this Diva!

What is Ivermectin? I am still learning haha I get paid soon so I will add them to the list of things to get. I am looking forward to seeing how she warms to me. I am told she steps up so will take it slowly.

Ivermectin is aa treatment used on quite a few different animals but obviously you want the one for birds, I always use Beaphar Anti Parasite spot on, make sure its the one for small birds, it treats roundworms, feather mites, blood mites and scaly face, if she does have any of these then you certainly don't want her to pass them on to your Pepi.
To be honest after looking at the photos of her I'm not sure whether she already has scaly face, she looks a bit sore at the side of her cere but don't worry if their is a problem our resident experts will advise you, prevention is better than cure so I would suggest you get some Beaphar for her.

Is your avian vet far from you? I would schedule a check up right away just to be safe in regards to her cere. Also the vet will be able to teach you how to give the medicine, how to hold your bebe when giving medicine, etc. If she does have scaly mites you do NOT want her anywhere near Pepi until she's treated and in the clear. You'll also need to scrub down her entire cage, all her toys, and toss any toys you can't properly clean. I'm sure there's a sticky on this forum about mites if you haven't read it already.
Poor bebe, if she's got mites I don't blame her for being so angry
