Default Clipping Wings?

Okay, so I posted a few weeks ago about how Ziggy is being an idiot. He kept beating up Pollo and wouldn't quit harassing Ju. Anyways, I had to separate him from the others. Anyways, I had to put Alice in with him a few days ago because he started getting extremely lonely and bored. Anyways, he now spends most of his day pacing and preening. He seems quite desperate to be with the others, and it seems to be taking a toll on him.

Anyways, I was wondering if I should try clipping his wings and letting him back in with the others? Like, if I can give the other boys an advantage by slowing Ziggy down...I don't know. What do you guys think? I hate seeing him like this. He can't help his aggression. His hormones are out of whack and it's causing him to be extremely possessive of the girls. He annoys the heck out of the girls because he won't quit courting them and trying to mate with them. He's even tried to force himself on Ju (male), Pollo (male), and Alice on more than one occasion. I just can't seem to get him to calm down.

I don't think clipping his wings will solve the problem.

Jay, my male is very hormonal right now and I am going to only let him socialise with his bonded female, Sage (she is not in condition right now) who is very good at handling Jay.
I've found him to be a little overly assertive when he was out today with Jimmy, so I'm just going to stop them socialising while Jay's an issue.

I asked for advice about what to do during Jay's hormonal issues. Here's what Faerybee said.

Quote:
You can help reduce Jay's "mating drive" by
ensuring he has access to lots of flight/climbing exercise.
Provide two or three swings to encourage him to keep moving and tire himself out.
Chew toys like Kabobs and other shredding toys are helpful and you should provide plenty of wood to chew--especially when he is in condition.

Reduce the number of hours of light he gets as well as the percent of protein and other foods used to bring birds into condition.

Have you ever considered seperating your flock by gender. Maybe he will be less aggressive if there aren't females around
for him to try and possess...

EQUAL numbers of sexes (eg if you have 6 birds, 3 hens and 3 cocks) are required to maintain a stable flock environment, if you have more males than females or vice versa, one of your birds will try to become very dominant and the 'boss'. clipping the wings will not solve the problem, you just have to let the birds sort it out on there owns, its part of social behavior of budgerigars, to go through such a phase in uneven flocks.

I guess I'm going to have to keep him separate from everyone. I have an equal number of males and females, but he wants all the girls to be his . Well, except for Rumi. He isn't interested in her. I don't even know why he's being so possessive of the girls, considering the fact that Rumi and Pollo are the only monogamous pair in the cage! Anyways, I tried letting them work things out for themselves, but trust me when I say it got really violent. Sooner or later, Pollo would've ended up with a broken wing or leg. Ziggy was actually throwing the poor guy to the bottom of the cage.

I have thought about separating them by gender, which would probably work. I'm just not sure about what the girls would think about not having the boys around. They really enjoy being pampered by the boys .

Oh, and I'd like to thank everyone for their replies. I appreciate the replies and will definitely be thinking them over. If only clipping the jerk's wings would solve the problem .

Don't worry, marya. I've decided against it. I guess he'll just have to stay in his own flight cage with Alice. I absolutely hate the practice of clipping wings (although it sometimes has its merit), and I was only considering it out of desperation. Okay, so maybe I'm not that desperate. The only thing I can think of that might help is using hormone-altering and calming herbs with him. Lavender and raspberry leaf, perhaps?
