An Experience with Jake.
I do like the Hagen Vision cage for quarantine cages but not for the first time I have had a budgie escaping incident with it.
Jake is in his quarantine room and I was cleaning his cage out. Because you have to lift the cage to off the bottom to change the paper, my little fella managed to escape his cage.
Now, I have a couple of budgie proof rooms, so it's not a big deal, but I did want to let Jake settle a little more.
Having said that, he has settled down a lot quicker than Skye did.
But here I have my new budgie, out for the first time.
I left him to explore the room and stayed watching him. After a little time, it was time to go back in but he was stubborn about jumping back into the cage.
I really don't like to grab a budgie if I can help it, so I decided 'what the heck, I'll try and get him to step on to my hand to get him in'.
And it only worked!
I spoke softly and calmly too him as I held my hand out to him, moving slowly and he stepped onto my hand. I was able to get him close to the cage and he jumped onto the top of the cage.
I managed to get him on again and he did go to the top of the cage or perched elsewhere for a little while (including my arm once). But eventually, he came onto my hand and allowed me to put him in his cage.
I was so pleased I was able to make it stress free as possible for him.
It's not like I think he has bonded to me, but yay!
