Default New & bigger "house"

Hello everyone, first of all thanks for the nice words you said to me in my last post, I'm back here asking again, I'm getting a bigger "house" for my princess (Raptor) and i found so far 2 nice and good options but I'm still searching, here in Ecuador they don't appreciate birds and budgies specially as the wonderful animals and companions they are so all the options of cages, food and vitamins are so so so sadly small and don't even ask me about breeders I haven't found a single one yet, I will have to start importing everything it's so sad not only for me but I think for all the other birds that are misunderstood I wish I could do something to inform not only people but the country officials in how they should treat birds and what standards they should request from pet shops and hope fully future breeders, of those 2 which one is the best one and what parameters or advice can you give me so I buy the best I can find here that the options are limited. Thank you as always.

I'm sorry to hear there aren't any good resources for caring, loving budgie owners such as yourself, Maurizio

You're doing wonderfully with little Raptor, though, and it's great you're thinking about getting her a new house. Do you know the model names or dimensions for any of those cages?

Thank you very much for the kind words and yes it's horrible that there's not much "resources" for birds, I have no clue about dimensions either model, they don't even have that information, I would say both of them are about a meter high or 3 feet I think it's the equivalent and they are the same high and same measures in the bottom so you have and rough idea of the size.

If they are about 36 inches (3 feet) in all three dimensions, then they're plenty large enough for your princess

I would measure just to be sure before purchasing.

Another option is Amazon, you may be able to find a cage you like better. They do ship to Ecuador, actually, and a small extra fee is the only difference. I attached the link for your reference

If you can get it via Amazon, try the Prevue F040 or F050. That's a 30" vs 36" flight path between the two, both are tall cages as well. The F040 is currently on sale for $113 and there is an additional $15 off "coupon" you can click on - final price about $98, plus any additional shipping to get it to Ecuador.

I much prefer the F050 - I plan to hook 2 of these together to get a much longer flight path - but at the current prices, 2 F050s would cost me about $130 more than getting two F040s. It's hard to hold out for the larger cage at that much price difference.

Plus the F040 requires the use of a dremel tool to cut through the solder blobs to remove the wire end panels between the soon-to-be-combined cages. With the F050, the wire panels are totally separate and its a simple matter of merely not installing them when you assemble the cage. But its hard to justify the extra $130 - another whole cage with money left over - even considering that.

Now I have to resist the impulse to buy THREE of the F040s and try to hook them together in a triple length flight, LOL!

BTW - the coupon can apparently be applied to only one cage in your shopping cart at a time. I don't know if you can buy one cage and use the coupon, and then a little later buy another and use the coupon again, so I'm buying one cage on my account and one on my son's.

hi there! i am a new parakeet owner in southern Brazil, and most of the pet stores are sadly lacking in any good quality parakeet care items. i ended up buying the biggest cage i could find that (a) fit in the space i had and (b) had the smallest bar spacing. it's 79x62x36 cm. it was being sold as a breeding cage for cockatiels... i was lucky because i had a friend visit from the US recently, so i ordered a bunch of stuff (safe toys, better perches, millet spray, etc.) from amazon.com and sent it all to her house before she travelled. maybe you know someone coming from the usa, canada, or europe soon who could do the same. i know the shipping costs and import taxes for buying online and sending to Brazil are prohibitively high. good luck with your bird! it sure sounds like it is in good hands with you!!

Peter,

You indicate your cage is 79 cm x 62 cm x 24 cm
[31" x 24" x 9.5" ]

Is 79 cm the length or the height of the cage?

Definitely not the first one; it is a poor design. Birds go for the highest space and the highest space is very tiny. The second one is better but again doesn't look ideal.

Can you build a cage? That is what I would do in your situation. I have seen some beautiful designs for cages with free instructions online. Those international fees are going to add up once you factor in the fee, exchange rate and per pound shipping rate on a powder coated wrought iron cage.

I and a few other brand new Prevue owners have had warranty issues right out of the box. I would make sure the manufacturer will honor the warranty internationally and if there will be extra shipping charges for new parts (the cage is designed as panels so they only replace the part that is broken).

Sorry - I just saw this. The dimensions are 62x39x79. 79 cm is the height. It is "house - shaped " or a box with the top side split into two angled halves, making a roof. Not my preference (wanted flat) but beggars can't be choosers here. 62 cm is the width, and the depth is 39cm.

Thanks for the link to your pictures.
You've done a great job with the new cage.
