Default DIY Toy Materials

Hi all!
My birds have been a little bored lately and I've been trying to find some cheap toys for them that weren't $10 a piece. I was cleaning out some stuff and found this wooden craft set. I'm not sure of the wood but I'm assuming it's birch since most icy pole sticks are made of it. Should I use it??

Thanks!
- Amy

Generally speaking, if wood is just 'plain' and you're sure it's untreated it's most likely fine. If it's not made for birds it can't be guaranteed safe for them. Although even some bird toys aren't 'safe' for that matter. I've used certain craft items before. When making your own toys, make sure there aren't loops that they can get heads or feet trapped in. Tie knotts tight.

Check bird toy/supply websites. They usually sell bird toy making pieces cheaper than pre-made store bought toys. I'm not familiar with ones that ship to Australia, but you can google it . Good luck.

If possible I would look up the brand and see if they indicate what material they are made of. Generally the material they make those out of are safe, but if you're unsure I would always double check

If you do decide to use them, as an extra precaution I might scrub them with some undiluted vinegar and let them dry thoroughly to get anything off that may continue to be there from the crafting days
