Question My budgie is in love with me

SO! we took all the mirrors out (another post) and she (lucky) became more inquisitive about her surroundings and me, since I sit right next to the cage all the time. Still not letting me touch her but she would get as close to me as the cage bars allowed, giving me head bobs, hanging upside down with my face near to her, and doing that whole "grab on tight and flap like mad" thing.

THEN I went to a friends house for a week to cat sit. Lucky was not left alone as my mom lives here and also spends a large majority in this same room. My mom said that while we (my daughter went with) were away that she would come and talk to lucky but it didn't really hold her attention. Lucky didn't act the way she did towards me but still would interact with my mom.

SO! after the week is up I came back home (Friday the 15th) and I come in and start talking and Lucky goes ballistic. VERY loud chirping and pacing back and forth in the cage flapping her wings etc. Just being as loud and rambunctious as possible. I figured she missed me of course but now even days later ANYTIME I walk away (I'm talking a bathroom trip or a walk to the other side of the room) she goes nuts again. Now when we interact she has become way more trusting and even lets me kiss her feet and tummy while she hangs upside down. She still doesn't like my hands but now she's not immediately trying to rip into them if I touch the bars of the cage when she's close.

The only thing that still bothers me is her flipping out when I walk away. It's even affecting her sleep. I had her all settled in with just one light source left on across the room. She was sleeping on her regular perch that she likes to roost on. Then when I got up and turned off the other light she immediately woke up and fell down to the cage bottom. I turned the one light back on so she could find her way back and get back to sleep but she's refusing to go back over and is sitting as close to me as she can again. It's been about 20 minutes and she's just sitting there clicking her beak all happy and content but not going back to her roost to sleep.

Is there any time frame for when her nervousness as my leaving her side may dissipate? Has anyone else had a similar experience? What did you do?

Greetings.I've had similar responses from my Gracie.she is all happy when I'm home on the cage bottom pacing as I talk with her.she chirps and sings for me.I too can get close to the bar and even putting my hand in the cage.but I can't touch her though.my budgie is scared of the dark,so I always leave on a night light and my air purifier on as background noise.or in your case u can use a radio at night on low and night life for the night scare.I'm sure one or more of our experts will be able to assist you more on this.she's used to havinga you around and is wanting to interact more perhaps.blessings and keep us posted.

yeah especially if it is a single budgie they get attached to you more I think. Cloud follows me room to room flying where ever I go, if I am in a different room and he does not see me, he chirps really loud calling me... I guess it is nice they are bonded to you very well, but then they can get stressed out if they don't see you for long periods of time, especially when you need to go out of town. I could not come up with a solution myself, Cloud gets depressed and aggressive when I went out of town, he got sick

Hey, don't worry--she just missed you! A lot

When you're gone for more than a week and your budgie loves you, when you get back, they're so happy to see you they don't ever want you to leave again, so they obsessively stay by your side when you do anything so you don't leave without them

I went to Germany last year for two weeks and Mallorn stayed at a friend's house, and when I got back, she wouldn't let me do anything (literally not even anything) without being attached to my arm or shoulder. After six or seven days, she realised I wasn't going anywhere anymore and settled down a bit

So, feel flattered! She clearly missed you tremendously She should stop being so clingy in a few days
