Our budgie, Rocky, passed away just under a month ago, and I miss him very much. I'm not too sure if I'm ready to bring a new feathered friend home yet.
However, today I was in a mall pet store that is going out of business, and they have two budgies that made me very sad to see. They were huddled together on their perch and were a bit shaky. One looked very ruffled. Even though it was barely noon, they looked like they were trying to sleep. They are both small, neither as tall nor as round as Rocky was, but I can't tell if they are malnourished or just young and not full grown yet. They looked kind of sickly to me, but I'm hardly an expert. They had no toys in their enclosure.
There are other animals in the store that are obviously malnourished. Their lizards all have bony tails and one has an open sore on his ribs, the pac-man frog wasn't moving in a hole it had dug, and all the animals have filthy cages. I was very close to buying the two budgies, but I think it was mostly the combination of the budgies' situation and missing Rocky so much.
Should I go back and bring them home? They made me so sad to see, and if they aren't sold before the store closes I'm not sure what happens to them. I just don't know if I'm ready to bring new babies home though. I know its hard to give advice to a stranger online, but I just don't know what to do.
I would be inclined to report the pet shop. Its very difficult to walk away feeling the need to rescue them but once you buy them the store will just replace them with more and so on.
The conditions you have described sound pretty serious and should definitely be investigated by the RSPCA.
Something to bare in mind, as the pet shop is closing down, the store owner is obviously neglecting these animals. If you do not report the store to someone and the shop reaches it's last day of business, just think how these poor animals may continue to suffer.
Please make sure you report the pet shop, no matter what action you take with the birds. As they are closing, it's unlikely they will be replaced, but if you get them, be prepared that avian et bills will likely come with them as them seem sick to you already and we can't assist you like an avian vet can.
I to would be inclined to report the pet shop.. It is hard to walk away from any animal or birds that are being neglected... Is it possible that you could report them.. Therm and Niamhf have given you very good advice..

If you do choose to "rescue" these two budgies, you are going to need to be both emotionally and financially able to cope with caring for them. An immediate visit with both of them to an Avian Vet will be required. Depending on their condition, it may require medication being administered to both of them twice a day on a daily basis for quite some time. If one or both of the birds were to die, would you be able to handle it emotionally at this point in time or would that stress be just too much to bear?
Greetings I also agree with my friends here.it makes me very sad to see any animal suffering or neglected.I hope the animals there will find loving homes .in my case I would help the budgies, but please everyone has stated be sure you're ready and prepare if you do.they may need medical help or atleast checked out by a qualified bird veterinarian.keep us posted and I wish you well.sending all 5hose animals there healing and comforting prayers.blessings
princess Gracie Barber welcomes you all and blessings
You should definitely report the pet shop !! And if you can afford the vet bills then you should definitely buy them. Just imagine how much joy you'll have to see 2 healthy budgies flying around your room, playing, chirping, knowing that they were sick and sad and you were able to give them a helping hand.
