Hi... After my Lemony died, I kind of got in to a slump about my budgies and, well... I'm doing better now and decided to adopt a rescue budgie. He has no name yet.
I HAVE to tell on myself... yes, I thought it was a hen. He has a pretty significant case of scaly face mites on his beak/cere and feet, so honest! His cere looked as brown as brown could be. The lady I got him from said she'd 'had her for years.. this is an older female'. Hmmmph.
I took him to the vet ASAP for the mites, and yes, indeed, he seems to be male. He looks to have been neglected.. dull feathers, mites, poor diet.
I've only been able to manage this one photo (not very good), but we are going slow... and guess what??? He eats veggies! Loves carrots, lettuce and celery so far! And he's eaten some pellets as well as his seed.
Anyhoo, here he is: I hope to get more shots of him from other angles... he is a creamy, buttery color with pretty blue on belly and back. He is a recessive pied, right?(not that you can really tell without seeing wings, back, etc)
awe he is super cute! so lucky to have found you.. well that you found him! I'm not super familiar with mutations and what not so I hope someone can clear this for me as a learning experience but in this pic he seems to still have baby bars which would mean he could not be "years old"? Or, do some mutations keep the bars on the head?
Aww, congrats on your adorable new friend and bless you for accepting him into your loving care, Judy. Just by the good nourishment he's getting, there is no doubt that he will continue to flourish for many more years to come.

Congratulations on your latest arrival!
I'm very glad you have rescued this budgie and are giving him a second chance at a happy life.
He is very fortunate to now be under your loving care and I hope he will soon be rid of those nasty mites.
Best of luck with your gorgeous little friend!
