Default Urgent advice needed! Does my budgie need a new buddy?

I have a pair of budgies, both around 11 years old. Unfortunately, one of them escaped today... They were siblings and they have been together this entire time. The other budgie seems to be a bit anxious today, sometimes chirping out loudly to find his buddy. He is half-tamed and I could potentially spend more time with him but I'm not sure if that's enough.

Should I consider getting him a friend or is he okay to be alone? Also, because of his age, I'm extra unsure!

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

I'm very sorry to hear of your budgie's escape.
And while the situation is heartbreaking, now is not the time to resign to it, there is still the chance of getting your budgie back.
You can look for him around your neighbourhood, place flyers advertising your lost budgie on nearby pet stores and vets. Since he is an older budgie, most likely his stamina is lower and there are good chances of you finding him on your street or other nearby area.
You can also spread the word on social media platforms, like Facebook, Twitter, etc.

If you happen to not find your budgie, you can spend extra time with your remaining budgie and closely watch his behaviour. If he is receptive to you, then you can strengthen the bond and if your budgie shows signs of adjusting well to this new reality, then you won't have to get him a friend.
If you do choose to get him a friend, it would be best to get him older male companion (4+ years old) as he may not be receptive to the high energy and enthusiasm of a young budgie.

I truly hope your budgie is safe and will soon be reunited with you.

Welcome to the forums, I'm sorry it's in such difficult circumstances!

I do hope you and your little friend are reunited, and as long as you do everything you can to spread the word about his escape, there's been several happy reunions around here with owners who've lost their budgies.

Please keep us posted and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for your little one's safe return home!

Saying a little prayer that the budgie that escaped will make its way home to you.

Hi! to Talk Budgies

I'm sorry you've come to the forum under sad circumstances and hope you are doing everything possible to find your budgie. Contact all the local vets and animal shelters; let your neighbors know he's missing; put flyers up around the neighborhood; walk around and look for him, etc.

I would certainly not be considering getting another budgie at this point in time.

Please take the time to read through all of the How To Guides, the FAQs and the stickies located at the top of each section of the forum.

You'll find most of your basic questions about budgies and caring for them will have been answered after you've read through all of them.
