Out of cage time

I try to give our flock a few out of cage sessions a week, but the only ones fully taking advantage of this are Sunny Bird and Abacus. With some prodding, Abacus can get Sprinkles to come out of the cage, and Checkers has come out too, but Licorice and Noodles are terrified with I open the doors and never try to come out. The only time they have come out is when something startled them and they happened to fly through the open door.

Licorice and Noodles are 'older' and were the birds that came with the cage. Do you think they will eventually want to start coming out of their cage or is this just the way they are?

For those who have not seen my flock (from left to right, Licorice, Noodles, Sunny Bird, Sprinkles, Abacus and Checkers on the bottom): https://i963.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps7empcoin.jpg

Hi there! :)

They may be tempted if they happen to see their flock mates having fun during their out of cage time. You can encourage Licorice and Noodles to come out, by setting up a play area near the cage and having a couple of perches strategically placed on the cage's bars (outside part) near the door.
They can also be enticed to come closer to the door by placing a favourite treat there.

I had been contemplating adding a perch near the door (this cage is hard for the birds to get out of) and adding treats there is a good idea.

I will have to give you suggestion a try. Thanks!

aluz has offered excellent advice.

I just want to say that your flock is beautiful.

What a lovely flock you have. Aluz's advice is great. They may venture out one day. Star and Josie never used to want to come out much but love their out of cage time now. :)
