Default Oh those hormones

My little Georgie just finished his first moult and his hormones are on fire. He is crazy for another of my boys, Bebe. First a little background, Bebe lives with his buddy Louie in one cage, all my other birds are paired up 2 in a cage, except Georgie. Since I have an odd number and he is a recent addition (gift) he has his own cage, which he was ok with until now. All the birds have out of the cage time together. Now Georgie will not leave Bebe's side and is fighting with Louie and pushing him away from Bebe. So I thought I would leave Bebe and Louie in their cage and let everyone else out,(Bebe and Louie can be out if Georgie is not, to prevent the fighting) the problem is that Georgie either sits on the top of Bebe's cage looking in or hangs on the side wanting to get in to be with Bebe, he just won't quit. Will this pass with time? I thought maybe I will have to move Georgie into another room where there are no birds but I don't want that to be a permanent arrangement. My husband said, "Get another bird for Georgie", but that won't break his attraction to Bebe as I already have other birds and he just wants Bebe.
I don't know what Bebe has but this is not the first time there has been a war over Bebe.

This is Bebe on the left and Louie on the right swapping seeds

and here is Georgie but this is a baby picture

Oh my - little Georgie wants Bebe all to himself!

Maybe when Georgie has out of cage time with everybudgie except Bebe and Louie you could move Bebe and Louie's cage into a different room?
If that won't work, would it be possible to cover it?

I can't speak to whether or not Georgie will outgrow his obsession with Bebe or not.
Hopefully one of our more experienced members will have some good advice for you.

Bebe is a handsome little fellow and looks very happy with Louie.
Georgie just wants to be king!

Thanks FaeryBee, I'll try moving Bebe and Louie, I tried covering the cage and Georgie just crawls under the cover to google eyes at Bebe. I feel sorry for Louie, he is moulting at the moment and feels a bit tired and does not need to be defending his BFF. Georgie is beyond obsessed with Bebe, he struts and clucks around him, beak taps him and head bobs and tries to feed him, Bebe has been pretty tolerant but does get tired of it and pushes Georgie away with his foot, which doesn't even phase Georgie.

Oh, goodness, Bebe does seem to be very popular

Poor little Georgie

Moving the cage is a good idea, I think.

To be honest, I don't have much relevant advice He's smitten for sure, and I also can't say if he'll outgrow his obsession or not.

Since Georgie is a single budgie, perhaps he would benefit more from being alone with you for a little bit and having some bonding time to distract him?

We'll see what the others say

Awww, poor little Louie! Dealing with a molt AND a guy who is trying to steal his BFF from him all at the same time.
Life can be so daggone unfair!

I hope moving BeBe and Louie's cage will help alleviate the stress for both of them.
Maybe when BeBe is out of sight, Georgie will forget his infatuation.

Poor Louie! That sure is a lot to take in all the while molting! It sounds like you have a lovely setup for everyone!

Being fairly new to keeping budgies again, I don't have any advice about if this will get better. I suspect it will not though... Watching my parakeet flock of males is like watching a soap opera.

Whether your Georgie will outgrow his current passion for Bebe or not, time will tell. From my experience I know certain budgies will keep that passion and I see it as a personality trait in a way.
While some young budgies will calm down and outgrow this "pushy" behaviour, others will keep it throughout their lives. The intensity with which they show their passion will be more visible in the first 2 - 3 years. After that they will naturally slow down.
My recently departed boy, Carioca was one of these extremely passionate boys. He would very often show his passion towards his toys at a very young age.
When I placed him with a budgie friend, he calmed down somewhat and he naturally bonded with his mate and his behaviour changed for the better.
I noticed over the years that he was always very protective towards his mate and due to this Carioca and his mate would have separate out of cage time in order to avoid bickerings triggered by jealousy.

For your current case, and if Bebe is bothered by Georgie's advances and if there are constant bickerings between Georgie and Louie, it would be best to try to divert Georgie's focus to you. You could work on bonding more closely to Georgie by spending extra one-on-one quality time with him, to set up playful activities which would keep him busy and hopefully make him forget about Bebe for a while.
It would be helpful to schedule different and separate out of cage times for both Georgie and Bebe/Louie.

If despite your efforts, Georgie continues to go to Louie and Bebe's cage to "disrupt" the peace, then as last measure you can temporarily move Louie and Bebe's cage to a different room and let Georgie's cage on the same room with the rest of your flock in hopes of more effectively wean him off Bebe. By doing so, Georgie will not be isolated from companionship even despite having the cage for himself and Bebe and Louie would be okay because they have each other and would still have out of cage time with the rest of the flock.

I hope my post wasn't too confusing...

Best of luck with everything!

I would like to have a better bond with Georgie, maybe I'll work on that by moving him to a separate room with only me when out of his cage, and see if he will cool off a bit. He's become quite a handsome guy after his molt, his head is much brighter yellow now, I'll try to get a current picture and post it if he will hold still long enough for me to take the picture.
