Default Thoughts and questions

It's 1am and I can't sleep I have so many thoughts lol.

Okay so tomorrow it will be a week since ms marple passed away ❤️
Rocky and I were spending the last couple of days by being near each other and bonding...
He has this super weird moments when he freezes and stares with wide eyes , and in that moment he lets me scratch his head and neck and cheeks .. Then he kinda "unfreeze" and become scared of me again and running away..hah..
He eats drinks chirps and all that normal stuff
Also plays with his toys like always , he lovvvess his toys . Ms marple didn't care for toys lol, she also never sang. She had such a different personality..
Anyway.. I know it's early (or
Not) to think about it but..I know he seems fine now with his toys and songs .. But maybe he needs a new buddy ? When nobody will be home I don't want him to become lonely ..
I got rocky from the pet store . But this time I'm thinking of getting a budgie from a breeder , a budgie that is hand tamed - would that be a problem ? To pair them up?
Rocky does perch on fingers and eats from my hand but generally he's kinda scared of humans .. :/
Can he "un-tame" the other budgie lol?...
Anyway when is it alright to get him a new friend ? After he lost his partner ...
And maybe it should be a boy this time ? I dunno .
Rocky is 2 years old. Do they even sell budgies around that age or only babies ? I wonder how will that work..

Sorry for being weird , it's 1 am and my head is exploding with questions

Good night and thanks !

Hi Karina!

From your description, it seems your Rocky is coping well and with continued work he will feel increasingly comfortable in interacting more closely with you.

If you think that in the long run, Rocky will benefit from the companionship of a same species friend, then a little male budgie would be a very good choice.
At 2 years old, your Rocky is still young so you don't necessarily have to get him an adult friend.
It's perfectly fine to get a hand tamed budgie. During the quarantine time, you will be able to establish a bond with the new budgie and depending on how training goes, when it's time for the budgies to meet, you can take advantage of the trusting bond you have with your budgie in order to strengthen the bond with the least tamed budgie.
These links should be helpful if you choose to get another budgie:

Good luck with your decision!

I also agree with Aluz, she's absolutely right. I'm glad it seems that little Rocky is doing okay, he's a very sweet little boy.

Please keep us posted on how things go!

Hey thank you for your answer
I'm trying to understand .. "Quarantine"? - to seperate new budgie in diffrent room for a period of time? that's what I understand from it? from the article I see that is should be 2 months? :O oh wow.
good to know.....
because the new bird could be sick?
but when you get two birds from same place like I got rocky and ms marple it's okay to put them in same cage?

also what size cage is good for 2 budgies? im cm

Hi Karina,

Yes, you're absolutely right. "Quarantine" means to house the new bird in a separate cage and separate room for a period to prevent the spread of illness that the new bird could be carrying. It doesn't have to be two months, the minimum amount of time should be around 40-45 days

If you get two birds from the same place less than two weeks apart, then yes, it's alright to put them in the same cage. However, after that period, it's quite possible that even the place you obtained the first bird from could have new birds that are carrying an illness, that is why quarantine is so important.

In centimetres, the minimum cage size for two budgies is 75 x 45 x 45 cm However, if you can afford something larger, bigger is always better!

If Rocky is chewing the perch then you need to remove it from the cage immediately.

You might be able to use the perch during supervised out-of-cage time, but only if you pay strict attention to Rocky and don't allow him to chew it at all.
