Default Picking up 2 budgies soon; Would like tips and advice

Hi, my name is Rachelyn and I'm new to TB. Me and my dad will be picking up two budgies in a couple of weeks and I would just like to see if anybody had any tips or advice on budgies.

Also, it would be very helpful if you guys had any good names that are for male/female budgies since I do not know the gender of the two babies yet. Here are the two babies below.

Also how old do they have to be in order to tell the gender of these babies? I would like to know as soon as possible. Thank you!

Hi Rachelyn and welcome to the forums!
You have certainly come to the right place as you will find all you need to know on budgie care here.
The best advice really is to browse through the forums for all the pertinent information on the several articles and sticky threads found at the top part of each section of Talk Budgies.

Those chicks are familiar to me, it seems your father has also posted on them here: https://talkbudgies.com/determining-g...parakeets.html

From those latest pics you posted, your budgies are likely two girls.
But time will surely tell, especially when the colours on the cere set in more.

In most cases when the budgies reach 4 - 5 weeks old it will be easier to tell.
When looking at the cere colours in person (not from a photo) gender can even be identified a bit sooner and depending on the parents genes, gender in some chicks can be determined right after hatching.

Also when you get to know your budgies, it will be easier for you to come up with names.

Hi Rachelyn and to Talk Budgies

The two budgies you are picking up in a few weeks are very cute. It appears you are getting them from a breeder?
Please make sure they are at least 8 weeks old and have been eating on their own for a full two weeks before bringing them home.

You could always name them Sage and Clover since they are both green and the names can be used for either males or females.

Please take the time to read through all of the How To Guides, the FAQs and the stickies located at the top of each section of the forum.

You'll find most of your basic questions about budgies and caring for them will have been answered after you've read through all of them.

Hi Rachelyn! to the forums

Your two babies are adorable. I love their iridescent shade of green!

As for names, I agree that time will tell, but here's a link to give you a few ideas. They're sorted by gender, including gender-neutral names
https://talkbudgies.com/new-budgie-ar...s.html#2807010

You've received some excellent advice from FaeryBee and Aluz as well as some great resources to help you learn even more about these cute little birds.

If you have any questions after reading through anything, be sure to ask as we'd love to help!

Hope to see you and these cute little ones around the forum It's great to have you with us

Cheers!

Thank you all for the help and tips.
I was hoping at least one of them is a male because I have read that they are more playful and sing and chatter more. If anyone else has a hunch on what their genders could be that would be helpful, but only time will tell.
I do like Sage and Clover so I will take those names into consideration, thank you.

I do agree with Aluz that at this point, they both appear to be female Of course, it's too early to tell for sure. By the time they come home, they may both look more like males!

However, females have the exact same potential to chatter and be vocal as males do. In fact, that trait is largely based on personality. I have a little girl and she chatters all day! She mimics and just bounces off the walls

The Article was very helpful, it gives me a new perspective on females!

The babies I am getting are being hand-fed, so they will hopefully be pretty tame. The gender thing has been pretty frustrating to me so far but I would just be thankful for happy, cheery personalities.

Me and my family like Kiwi for one of them, but the other I am still trying to figure out what its name could be. Its really exciting getting my own birds for the first time, but my parents have raised African Greys and Blue-Gold Macaws before so I'm not like super inexperienced.

I'm glad you found it useful! It's so cool your parents have been parronts to some parrots! I also love the larger birds, too.

It will be very exciting to get to know your little ones when they come home! What about another green fruit or veggie for the other one, like Kale, Honeydew, or even Snow Pea? Perhaps any other fruit would be cute, too, like Peach. Or you could forego a theme and name the other Kipper

Well, I'm sure any name you choose will be perfect! Keep us posted!

The babies are an absolutely beautiful color!
I really like the intense green -- absolutely gorgeous.

Those are some cute babies. Kiwi is a great name for one of them.
