Default Elise's nail got stuck in the cover

So tonight I said goodnight to my budgies and covered them and I hear them climb and peck for a few minutes and then they calm down. The problem was after a minute I heard nothing but shuffling around and I liked thinking some1 had a night terror except when I pulled the cover off I couldn't it was stuck to Elise's little toe
I panicked for a few seconds then snapped out of it telling myself to get it together. So outside of the cage I tried to help her since I didn't want to scare her by opening the door. That didn't work so I put my hand in after grabbing scicciors and she imediatly tried to lay in it (she isn't tame) & she was so still I thought she had died (when I was 4 a budget flew out & died of shock). She ended up moving and biting me trying to pull herself out and then I somehow freed her without using the scissors and then she flew to the bottom and climbed to the top and I talked to her for a few minutes as well as the other budgies.
This has never happened before, do I need to get s new cover?
What can I do if this happens again? Also please give feedback if I did anything wrong (keep in mind my mom was sleeping when this happened)
Elise is ok now

I'm sorry for the scary event you and Elise have been through. It's good that you managed to free her toenail from the cage cove and Elise wasn't hurt in the process.

It would be important to carefully check Elise's toenails as they can be long and that in itself will facilitate these types of incidents where she can get her toenail/foot stuck on the cage's cover, rope perches, toys or any other cloths or articles of clothing.

You can also get a cage cover made out of a lighter and thinner fabric/material which would make it more difficult and reduce the chances of your budgies getting the toenails caught in it.

I'm glad little Elsie is just fine after the incident! I agree with Aluz that a cage cover made out of a smoother, thinner fabric will help to prevent that sort of incident in the future.

How is your little one doing now?

Aww. I'm so sorry your little Elise got stuck! My budgie Ice has gotten his nail caught twice (both times it was totally my fault) and I know how scary it can be. We love our budgie friends so much and want to keep them safe and happy, so when something as simple and preventable as a stuck nail causes problems, it can really scare us as to how many dangers there are for such tiny animals! :s

I'm using a cotton picnic blanket with no hanging strings that's really thin, I have a spare sheet can I use that?
Elise's nail it chewed off a little except she was biting on them the day before, otherwise she's singing and jumping around.

I'm glad to hear Elise is doing well and wasn't seriously injured.

Many members do use a sheet as a cage cover.

I bought pre-made cage covers for my cages:
