Tomorrow it will be a week since Toki moved in with us. She's still a little skittish but today while I offered her millet she gave my fingers little budgie kisses in between nibbles Greyjoy seems to be coming around too, he's chattering and head bobbing again. Still trying to talk & now he makes little kissy noises. I still can't get him to want to come out to play anymore tho, but I think that's because he is so focused on his sister in the other room.
This is going to be a long forty days I really want to get her out of her stupid little cage. I have been looking at the double flight cages with the removable divider in case they don't want to live together. Trying to plan ahead to their introduction but it's making it a hard wait. In the meantime I divide my time between them as best I can & I have been stockpiling toys & other sundries for their new cage. I should just have gotten two budgies from the start but I would probably have been overwhelmed since it was still new to me. What awesome little buddies these guys make, wish I had known years ago.
I tried that once and he fell and it freaked me out so I had been taking him out on my finger to the playgym. Perhaps I'll set up some treats and a bridge or ladder to avoid the falling. I also have plans to build a training tent out of mosquito netting and pvc pipes that will fit over the cage and I can take down when not in use. Then he can come & go as he pleases and do so safely. He can also share with his sister when it's time.
Those are very helpful suggestions thank you, my only concern with padding the floor is I tried it before and I found it very hard to see him on the floor and I was afraid I would step on him. Maybe I'll try a solid colour and he'll show up better. They're just so little and fragile.
Thank you StarlingWings, I feel like I was meant to take her after the fudge up at the pet shop. I had picked out a boy who looked just like her when the clerk told me he was a she and grabbed Toki and swapped them, I didn't have the heart to argue & I hated stressing them out more so I just took her.
