I'm trying desperately to get Stormy to eat some fruits and vegetables, but no matter what I do, he refuses! Every day I put a variety of food in his dish but he just throws it on the ground and only eats the seeds
I hand-feed him seeds and treats with no problem, so I tried some veggies too and he spit them at me! He thinks its a game, I think.
I try to mix his seeds in with some veggies so he'll have no choice but to try a bite and discover he likes it, but he's too darn clever!
Today I finally tricked him into taking a bite of some kale (hand-feeding him some millet and switching it with a leaf right before he took the bite ) and he spit it out and bit me!
Does anyone have other tips to get him to eat his veggies, or maybe some food they absolutely love? Maybe he just doesn't like celery, lettuce, carrots or kale! I have one stubborn bird.

"Give me my seeds back, mom!"

Well, Stormy seems to have good timing
As soon as I posted this, he decided that celery is his favorite food! I'm very very happy that he'll finally be receiving some proper nutrition
Now onto fruits!

The best way in my experience is not to mix his seeds with veggies and/or pellets. Having the other food separate from his seeds may help entice his curiosity to try something different. I also recommend giving him whole pieces of carrots, broccoli, celery, apples, etc. to start, which my birds also prefer nibbling on. Anything other than seeds that birds don't routinely eat may take time for them to acquire a taste for, but eventually they'll accept it if its continuously offered. Good luck and Stormy is too cute of a birdie to be just stuck with seeds.

Morgan,

I'm glad Stormy has tried some celery and decided he liked it! You should keep on trying with other veggies, though. Budgies pay lots of attention to how things are served, so you could be totally convinced a budgie hates carrot, for example, after many days of sticking some through the bars of the cage, but shredding it one day and serving it like that may change his mind, for example.

Budgies tend to love herbs, so basil and parsley may also be popular with your boy, even if he's picky.

As for fruits, I hope he likes them! If it turns out he does, fruits should only be given a few times per week as they are high in sugars and therefore less "healthy" than veggies

Best of luck and keep us posted!
