Default Welcome Sadie

Hey everybody, I'd like to introduce you all to little Sadie.

She came home with us today after falling for her charm at the pet store. She's from a totally different one from all the other birds, from quite a bit further away. I was charmed by her beautiful colours and look- another yellow face! Who'd have thought it!

Sleepy

So yes, Sadie has become the 9th budgie in the household. She will be getting a budgie friend at some point, I didn't want to get one at the same time as the birds were in an aviary and I found it hard to determine their gender from where I was observing them. I decided to just go with one for now and add a friend at a later date- she will not be lonely for birds to talk to anyway.

I just went and checked on her and she's in the food bowl on the floor, throwing the food everywhere. I never had a budgie do this behaviour before.

I am very certain that after I get Sadie a friend to live with, that will be it for me and budgies right now.
Oh, and a nice new cage has already been ordered.

Congratulations on your latest arrival!
Little Sadie is absolutely precious, I can understand why you have fallen for her!

From the amount of dark pigment on her beak, she must be recently weaned. Budgie chicks will usually lose the melanin as they reach 2 months old.

Best of luck with your new budgie girl!

I thought on it for a good five hours before deciding on getting her. I knew she might be gone but decided that it would be fate if she was there or not.
I also noticed the pigmentation on her beak and knew she must be fairly young. I'm pretty certain she isn't sure what a food bowl is and prefers to eat from the cage floor- which is fine with me. She reminds me of Sage from when I first bought her home with her acrobatics.

Thanks, Ana.

Oh my, Sadie is absolutely a beautiful baby girl and I love her bold spots! I also love the way these photos are taken with the cage bars against darker shades on the background, which gives the photos a film noir tone. She's so cute with sleepy eyes on the last one too.

Smile Welcome

A way to curb the waste of seed is to put a large shallow tray on the bottom of cage and then secure the food dish in the middle of the tray. The dish can be single serving or a larger stainless or glass baking dish. We put shallow trays under our gravity flow feeders to catch seed dug out by industrius budgies,
Young budgies are more likely than adults to do this. They do teach each other!! Blessings Jo Ann

Sadie is an adorably precious little sweetheart!
I certainly see why you are smitten with her.
I just love the way she holds her head up proudly even though she's such a wee little girl. And, of course, her mutation is beautiful.

Congratulations on your wonderful new home, Sadie!
