Default A lucky couple

Hey guys! It's been a long time! some of you may remember that I own 3 birds, 1 female, 2 males, all caged separately and they meet each other in their free-out of cage- time. So where's the couple then?
Lina's cage was broken and it was not fixable. My dad thought that we could take the big cage, divide in two parts and the birds could be still separated. But he couldn't find a piece of metallic cage bars, so he had the idea of putting a soft plastic wire until we could buy one, since Lina shouldn't stay more to her previous cage. This was a bad idea, I told my father not to do it, because I don't like this material. Budgies climb all the time and I was afraid it would do harm to their feet. So one day I was out and my dad did it without my approval. I came home and the birds were in that cage! I was so afraid! I guess the birds were used to their new surroundings and they didn't climb to the wire, thank God! I decided to go and buy a new cage for Lina the next day. The next morning, I uncovered the cage and I saw that Aries and Lina were on the same side!! That silly rooster must have climbed over the wire, bended it- due to his weight I suppose- and let himself to the other side! I looked closely to his legs, he wasn't harmed. They began to bond with each other, preened, ate together and.. kissing! Of course I told my dad what a bad idea that was, Lina is old and breeding is a danger for her.
My dad took the wire out the next day. Then I decided that if saw any "couple" behaviour, I would go and get a cage right away.
Thank God, no mating, no eggs, nothing since then. The first two weeks I was a complete stranger to them. They would spend all day preening, playing and singing. They get along well and I have reasons to believe that this couple doesn't "match".
But I always observe them and if something changes, I would do what's best for them.
Last but not least, there are a few things I found out for these birds. Aries doesn't want to share anything, he is a corn junkie and he preens Lina for hours. On the other hand, Lina feels better that she has a bird friend close to her, she was alone for years so I think she looks revitalised she doesn't like that Aries doesn't share anything but I make sure I put 2 portions of veggies and fruit so everyone is satisfied. I'll post a photo later. Thanks for reading my long post!

Hi Despina!

Despite the initial stress from moving Lina to the bigger cage, I'm glad everything worked out for the best and Lina has found a good friend in Aries.
By taking the necessary precautions, you shouldn't have trouble in terms of discouraging breeding behaviour: https://talkbudgies.com/budgie-breedi...want-eggs.html

I will be waiting for the pic!

That's great that your two birds are getting along so well and that you're being cautious with their behaviour. It sounds good so far.
My budgies live in couples- male and female together- and so far I have not had any issues with breeding. I tend to do a weekly deep cage clean where I clean of the shower curtain behind their cages and I re-arrange the cage at the same time.

I hope thing go well with the current set up.

here's the couple

when I first saw them together, it was like a blast from the past Aries looks a lot like Lino!
@Aluz Yes, I had read the thread but I am still a little stressed out, Lina is 8 and I don't want to happen anything to her! I guess I'll be observing them and if anything happens, I'll separate them right away. What else should I do?

It's great that Aries and Lina are getting along well.
The picture of the two of them is wonderful!
As long as you are following the steps to discourage breeding and keeping a close eye on them, everything should be fine.
