Default New budgie male or female?

Hiya all, I wonder if anyone would be able to offer me some advice on the sex of our new budgie, I thought it was female but not do sure now, she's roughly 7 months old. Many thanks ? Th pink on her head is from the perch that she has it's one of those ones they nibble on too, she's slowly been going pinker this past week eek! Or he... Lol only had her two weeks and trying to tame her, she's letting me hand feed her but gets cranky if you get any closer so just feeding her for the moment.

Welcome to the forums and congratulations on your new budgie!

You do have a beautiful young female there. From the photo, she looks younger to me, if I had to guess I'd say she is about 5 months old.

If you are relatively new to budgies, the information on the several articles and sticky threads will be extremely useful.
Be sure to check the Taming and Bonding section of Talk Budgies.

Good luck with your new budgie friend!

Ahh thank you ! We were completely unsure as has a bluish tint at times, daughter named her Peppa so glad we don't have to change her name now lol

I'll check them out, we are relatively new to budgies, I had one when I was little, and have fond memories although my mum did all the proper looking after then! Seemed like a nice pet idea for my daughter so we are reading up on everything we can do to keep her happy, thank you for advice shall browse

You're very welcome! It's good that you will be checking out the info, you will find all you need to know on budgie care here.

Young and immature females or females out of breeding condition can have a light bluish tint mingled with white colour on the cere.
Peppa is a lovely name for your budgie!
As Peppa matures and comes into breeding condition for the first time, the cere will progressively tan till reaching a dark brown colour. When out of condition, the cere will revert to a creamy white colour which may or may not have the faint bluish tint on the edges of the cere.

Hi there and to the forums!

Peppa is a very sweet little girl and I'm glad to hear you're making some progress with taming her!

Feel free to ask any questions you may have after reading through everything; the forum's "stickies" (threads "stuck" to the top of each subforum for easy reference) and articles will help you along in caring for daring Peppa

I hope to see more of her around the forums, and you as well

Cheers!
