Unhappy I just dont know what to do

Ok, so as many of you know I had two budgies all was well, I unexpectedly got another...

Cosmo and Snow the two females were doing so well in their big cage together. But then the last few days I kept feeling like Snow was bullying Cosmo. It was minor so I just kept watching. But as I watched I realized that Snow as keeping Cosmo from, well, doing anything. If Cozzy went to eat, Snow immediately went there too and bickered her away. If Cozzy went to play, Snow went too and bickered her away. No real actual fighting just Snow not letting Cosmo live. As soon as Snow would get Cosmo back the their favorite perch she would then begin to preen Cosmo like everything was ok. Well last night poor Cosmo was looking really really depressed. I felt terrible. I realized I had to do something.

First I moved all the toys and perches around in each cage while the birds were out. Cleaned the cages and filled the food and water bowls.

My first attempt, I tried Cosmo in Harvey's cage and moved Harvey to the big cage with Snow. OH NO!!! Snow viciously started to attack him! I mean like immediately. I quickly reached in and scooped out Snow. No damage was done luckily.

Then I moved Cosmo back to the big cage with Harvey and moved Snow to the flight cage by herself. Since she obviously seems to be the "problem" in this equation. Poor Cosmo at this point runs to the food bowl and starts eating so fast she isn't even "chewing". I mean I've never seen a bird eat like that. I feel terrible! I had no idea that Cosmo was under such duress.

But now poor Harvey just wants to be near Cosmo. And every time he literally even looks at her she dolphin noises him. They aren't squabbling and they aren't keeping each other away from anything at all. But Cosmo just doesn't want anything to do with Harvey. I suppose it could be worse. But I'm just so...

These things happen sometimes and we just have to adjust to the situation and do the best we can.

Harvey and Cosmo may end up getting along fine (or at least will be able to share a cage).
If Harvey's advances become too much for Cosmo and cause her more stress, then you may need to house each of the budgies separately.

Give it a couple of days and see if things between Harvey and Cosmo calm down a bit.
Being housed together suddenly has to be a big adjustment for both of them.

It's definitely important to keep Snow by herself as she has displayed such aggressive tendencies.

Well. You are right as always Faerybee Harvey and Cosmo just needed to adjust. It must have just been a big shock to them both. They are now playing and singing and eating and everything together! I mean really playing together. Like tug of war with the bell toys and such. Cosmo seems so much more relaxed and happy and Harvey is just thrilled she doesn't hate him hahah! I will continue to watch and make sure they stay good though since its only been about 24 hours now.

As for Snow, she will need to stay a single lady haha. Maybe she and I will bond better. Who knows. But my heart cannot ever take seeing another budgie so sad like Cosmo was or viciously attacked the way Snow did to Harvey last night.

Thanks for listening every budgie. This bird mama thing has me just as stirred up as when I had my first baby haha!

Angie,

I'm so glad Harvey and Cosmo are getting along well now.

Even though it has only been 24 hours, the fact they are eating, playing and singing together is a very good sign,
It sounds as if Harvey and Cosmo are well on their way to being BFFs

I'm so glad that it seems things have calmed down now! I totally agree that the fact that Harvey and Cosmo settled down so fast now points to a very positive step in the right direction for the birds

You're doing a great job with them
