Hello all! I just wanted to report that we finally rolled in with Bubbles the Budgie last night at 8 pm! Although we had a hefty drive to and from the breeder it was SO worth it! He is just incredibly beautiful, and we got to see the aviary, a day old baby (SO CUTE), and got lots of great advice and information! To anyone considering where to get a birdie, I can't put into words the difference we experienced between buying a pet store budgie and a buying a private breeder budgie. Not only was it more fun, but we learned so much, and it put our minds at ease. We got to see Bubbles' parents, and where he hatched, and how clean and well cared for his environment was! It was completely worth the drive, and we wished Spiral could have gotten such a great start in life. Today Bubbles is getting his bearings and settling in, but I will post pictures soon. We head to the avian vet later in the week for his new birdie checkup.
Alex is over the moon. Every action or change in posture has been noted, documented, and celebrated. He is researching budgie psychology to find the best ways to win Bubbles trust (this morning he reread the sticky here titled "Yes, your budgie is scared) and has been sitting by the cage talking with his birdie all day. After caring for Spiral and learning so much from TB, I can see his confidence as he works with his new bird. Thank you guys- pics soon to come!
Yay!! Sounds like an amazing an positive experience for everyone. I'm so happy and excited for your family as well as little Bubbles. What a happy and uplifting post. Thanks for sharing and I for one CANNOT wait to see pictures of Bubbles.

What a blessing for all of us. This is the way All of our companion budgies and
other birds and animals should be introduced to joining a human family. I am so proud of Alex and his parents and the breeder for doing it right. Including the prep done by the experienced breeder to prepare Bubbles to be a self confident little member of his new family. This is what Everyone on Talk Budgies stands for. Well done each of you for providing the example for Children like Alex to grow with. Imagine if all of the children of the world could grow up wise and gentle like Alex. Blessings, Jo Ann
Thank you all so much for your kind words! You are just such a great community . I have to share what is going on at my coffee table now: Bubbles, who has been quite nervous (understandably) has been very shy, although he has taken a little millet from us! Alex thought back to Spiral's uncontrollable curiosity about his schoolwork, so he set Bubbles cage (he's still in a large travel cage for security) on the coffee table facing him, opened the door, and then got several stacks of trading cards he wanted to organize and went to work, COMPLETELY IGNORING BUBBLES. Ya'll, the bird couldn't stand it. He is now at the front of the cage as close as he can get to Alex, trying to see what he's doing. He started whistling, eating and preening, and Alex began talking softly, whistling, occasionally doing the little "budgie blinking game", but overall focusing on the cards rather than the bird. The birds whole posture has changed! He is such a little bird whisperer- I'm so proud of his patience and creativity right now!
I've got a meeting this afternoon, but my next priority is getting some pics on photobucket and on here! My background is in psychology, and it's so fun watching Alex try to piece together budgie psychology from his readings and experiences.
JoAnn, you especially have blessed our family in reaching out to us during such a tough time, and encouraging us to try again. I am so thankful for your influence on my son!
Leslie, that's so wonderful to hear! Alex puts a big smile on my face and he definitely sounds like a bird whisperer to me! Little Bubbles is already building a strong foundation of trust with Alex--what a wonderful boy your son is
How amazing to witness the deep love and respect that Alex has for little Bubbles. I can tell it will blossom into something much greater than that soon.
I can't wait to see those pictures of the handsome little fellow!
and Princess Mallorn!
Thank you to Deb for her wonderful Faery magic
