Default Introducing the Fids

Well after all my words in gest in the Budgaholics section here I am about to tell you all a little story and introduce you to two very special fids.
First of all I will tell you that for the longest time I have wanted one of the larger English exhibition type budgies but they just werent available where I live, infact there were no breeders of English budgies at all that I knew of anywhere near me. So when I found Houdini's breeder I was like someone who found the pot of Gold at the end of the rainbow. Houdini is a small sized English and when I picked him up the breeder showed me the larger size exhibition budgies that he had got with the hope of breeding them next year. I made him promise he would let me know when they had babies for I craved one so badly.
I go to our local pet store regularly (this is not the store where my friend found Elsa) I get toys and food and stock up on whatever is needed about once every two weeks or so there, and each time I go there I visit the pet section and always the birds especially the Budgies and Zebra Finches. They only ever sell American type budgies there and they are always so cute and colourful and a pleasure to watch. I had no reason to believe that today would be any different but I was wrong. For one thing I met Rosa Bourkes for the very first time in reality... all they usually ever sold there were finches canaries Budgies and cockatiels but today there were Rosa Bourkes and Khakariki too and then I looked at the budgies and I thought I was seeing things for there in the middle of all the American type budgies were two very bewildered looking large size English exhibition type budgies huddled together as if they were clinging to each other...they had just arrived in the store and you could see they were scared and a whole lot more timid for all their size than the American type budgies who were slready digging into the food bowls with great gusto. Well both of them came home with me and settled in remarkably fast and ate all round them. I must say its a pleasure to see birds eat their veggies before touching any of the other foods on offer. I didnt want to disturb them much this evening so the pics arent great but I think its a boy and a girl...They are ringed but I didnt handle them to see their ages...Im presuming they are probably retired breeders but I dont know...time enough for finding out their age once they settle in. (Yes they are in Quarrentine ) I think the hen is olive but I have no idea what mutation the male is but he has beautiful colouring and shading and his feathers are exquisitely flourescant looking for want of a better word. Anyway here are my new additions Popeye and Olive

Mary,

You are absolutely correct, you have a lovely little female and a very handsome male there!

I'm glad you were able to make your dream of having English budgies come true. Popeye and Olive are quite fortunate to have been adopted by you and it sounds as though they are settling in quite well.

Congratulations!

Wow Mary! What a surprise! Well, okay maybe not a huge surprise . How exciting though, congratulations on the new arrivals . Like you said, you'll know it when you see them!

I'm not one of the mutation experts, but I know the hen is a grey-green not olive. The male sure has some pretty intense green suffusion there. Not sure what he is though. Dark green normal maybe? But it looks like there is a bluish tint too? Someone else will be able to tell...oh, but we need more pics from the front . We will give any excuse to see more budgie pics!

Popeye and Olive, how cute! Olive is perfect for the hen. Mink was almost named Olive . Oh they look like such sweethearts and are gorgeous.

Mary, many more congratulations on your little ones!

They are beautiful and I'm sure they will love their new home

Popeye is a dark green (sf violet?) male and I believe he is split to opaline, judging by the suffusion on his head.

Olive is a grey green normal budgie

You had better keep us majorly posted on these little ones or we'll start having severe withdrawal symptoms!

Okay so you are all waiting for more pics...sorry they took so long but it takes forever to upload pics and video on my very poor internet connection
Well it seems that Popeye and Olive gobbled and I mean gobbled their veg: spinach Kale cauliflour carrot and some sprouts and sugarsnap peas (nothing wrong with their appetite) before I got thr camera focused on them and then they attacked the seed and I crushed some of my parrots pellets and added them to the food aswell as some mealworms...well after all it is a very celebrationary breakfast with it being their first morning here
They had a little conversation about the waittress and whether or not she could be trusted or not...here is what they had to say:
Popeye looked at the crazy lady offering him a handful of seed and immediately turned to Olive and said; "Ladies first my love". Olive replied with a question: "What do ya think Popeye can we trust this crazy Birdigirl or not?"* Then Olive* boldly took a step forward saying; "I'll take a look and come back and tell you what I think..." suddenly returning to Popeye's side she said; "I know you are really courteous* Popeye and that you are always saying ;Ladies first and all,* but this is one of those times I really think that its the gentlemans place to take the first step dont you ? "
So Popeye after having downed his spinach earlier boldly stepped where no showtype budgie had ever stepped before
