Well, he has been here a few months now and his character has really developed. He has bonded well with me, spends a lot of time out of his cage and interacts enthusiastically with his toys. His very favourite is a green, plastic clothes-peg, of which his is extremely possessive! He has a daily routine, takes himself to bed and has just completed one rather lengthy moult. He didn't appear any less bouncy, but there were feathers everywhere. He also likes his greens, which are simply outdoor-sourced weeds from the safe list.
I love him to pieces and am so glad he survived his escape from wherever. He's a cracking little bird.
Thats excellent news!
What did you end up naming your little fellow?
We'd love to see some pictures of him if you have any you'd like to share.
He is called Smartie!
Although I'm logged in, it says I can't share a photo until I have an account - although I have shared one previously, I think and am posting now.
He still loves his peg the best, but I've set up an activity area and recently 'paper shredding' has seen a rise in popularity. I saw this on a DIY budgie toys page somewhere and you cut a fringe of about 6 inches/15cm along the long edge of some A4 (use ruled, it's easier) and leave the top edge uncut at about 2 inches. Carefully curl the paper fringe bits one at a time in both directions then roll the curly result up and clamp in a peg. It makes a bit of a mess but is apparently good entertainment, and is nothing compared to millet husks.
Oh, here, I did it. Smarts with his beloved peg and the activity area under his cage. Not that he's ever in it!
