Question Sudden behaviour change

Milo was bought for our younger budgies and since he bonded with one female he adapted very easily and was cheerful and active almost all day long. What worries me the most is that instead of singing he makes the same "croaky" or "gargly" sound over and over. I thought he was unable to make other sounds or something, but he sometimes chirps and makes other sounds, especially to his mate, with no problem. He also makes normal "singing" but less often. He has no runny nose, no tail bobbing while breathing, no "bird coughing" that I heard in a couple of videos, so far I think he's healthy.
He made normal singing right now, as though to tell me not to worry -wait he now makes "croaky" singing again! D: Could it be he just prefers to do it?

I saw him asleep on the food container's perch, it might be a coincidence, but last time a bird fell asleep while doing something it turned out to be ill But all our birds are less active these days, maybe it's the hot and humid weather. He had disturbed sleep lately, making the same sound, is this problem psychological!? lol
Also, something that worried me from the start is that the fecal part of his droppings is not homogenous, it has tiny short black "hairs" (not actual hairs!). However they have improved lately, more homogenous and less "hair".
I know, I know, but I've seen budgies show severe symptoms only right before they die, I wonder if he turns out to be ill.

Sorry if this is something obvious, thanks in advance!

Kassandra,

Could you post a picture of Milo's droppings please?

Additionally, if you could post a audio clip of his "croaking" noise that would be helpful as well.

I wouldn't be overly concerned about him falling asleep on his food dish perch. Budgies like to nap and do so in some strange places.

If it is particularly hot, are you giving offering him a bath and/or giving him light mistings?

Thanks faerybee! about the bath, yes I spray them lightly or fill a bowl with water -our budgies fly and play outside the cages and we place a bowl for them.
I know napping in strange places is not bad, but the other budgie did that too often, it turned out she was to weak to finish what she intended to do. Milo did it only once and indeed shows no signs of weakness.
Recording the sound will be difficult, I'll try. Usually many budgies sing simultaneously, also if I bring a phone or camera near them they are startled and stop chirping
I took a picture of a new dropping, they look more normal than before. Thanks for the links, I have read as much as I could about droppings, including this forums I think, but I haven't seen anything similar. They seem to have brownish-green shades mixed inside and when I squash them I find tiny pieces - sometimes they are oblong like "hair" today they look like dots.
The first image is the correct colour, the second image is after I squashed it, not diarrhea

I know that the fecal part can change according to what they eat and is not always bad, sometimes they change colour from pellets, right? When we first got him his droppings were more obviously strange, but they look more normal by now

Kassandra,

I agree with Deborah's advice above Unfortunately, we are unable to see your photos--Photobucket is the easiest way to post pictures around here, and the account is free. Here's a link that will help: https://talkbudgies.com/how-guides/17...otobucket.html

Does your budgie have any toys he might be accidentally ingesting that could be causing the little pieces in his droppings? What is his diet like?

Hi starling, I thought I fixed the image, is it still missing?
I don't tink any of the toys could be the cause the "pieces" are extremely small and, after all the droppings were like that when we first got him and they improved over time. Their toys are plastic braids, knots and swings and a wooden "playground" they like to munch on. The diet for all the budgies is a mix of various seeds and pellets.

My advice when you're worried about the health of your bird is always to make a vet appointment. I always err on the side of being safe.

He might indeed just prefer to croak. Maybe he thinks he's a frog? And sleeping in a weird place is totally normal for a bird. My older girl likes to sleep with one toe on one perch and one toe on the ceiling.

I can see the image now, well done!

To me his poop doesn't look too abnormal--a bit slimy, but unless it's consistently like that all the time I wouldn't be concerned. Some droppings are wetter than others.

The smashed poo looks fine--the tiny dots in there are just a normal part of excretion, it is parts of the seeds and pellets they could not digest. A diet of pellets and seeds will indeed make the poops much lighter than if they had just been eating seeds.

From what I can tell, unless there are accompanying symptoms, your budgies are just fine

That sounds funny, Katie! One of my other budgies hang with both feet from the cage ceiling one night, we made him step on a perch though. My mom researched a bit about vets, she says vets in our area do not specialize in birds, so if we notice any other symptoms we will carefully take the budgie to a short trip for checkup.

Thanks Starling you are right, you know, I was thinking if I started smashing every budgie's poop maybe all of them would have "pieces" anyway! The reason I did is these droppings used to have two-coloured green part, they still are if I look closely but they are more homogenous now.

Thanks everyone, I think he's actually ok, it's just that I though small changes in other budgies' behaviour was normal but they weakened fast and we had no time to see if we can do something about it. I'll keep an eye in case the he really becomes unable to make sounds, otherwise he has his own musical taste

Hello again guys, thanks for the replies and advice! I recorded Milo making the sound louder than ever, as strange as the sound is, if he can be so loud then he's probably healthy, right? He's still able to make other sounds, maybe the "croaking" just means something.

Here's the video -tilted, I didn't think to turn the phone properly-

Sounds to me like that is just his own unique call! Perhaps he is mimicking something?
