Thought I would post a general update. Petie is doing well. I have noticed that he has some days where he wants to be petted and others when he does not. Seems to be moody sometimes. He will only let me pet him in the cage.
We do out of cage times several times per week. Generally I let him come out as he pleases. Sometimes he comes out quite a bit. Sometimes he prefers the cage. He typically immediately flies to my shoulder, runs around, nibbles on my hair, jumps to my hand, etc. It has definitely been a learning experience. He is a lot of fun and we've become quite attached. I have spent several hundred dollars on cages, etc. I just ordered the king's flight cage for small birds to give him more space.
I have mostly converted him to pellets and some fresh veggies and sprouts. But I still mix in a small amount of seed in his daily diet.
Though I think he's probably four months old based on info from here, he still has not molted. So I am waiting for that.
Overall he seems very happy. He does have some moody days but mostly interactive. I assume this is normal.
Petie sounds like he is a beautiful bird. Even though you have converted your budgie over to pellets they still should eat a good quality of budgie seed included into there diet..In the out back of Australia the wild budgies eat only seed etc. I use budgie crumbles and a good quality of budgie seed...

Most budgies do not like to be petted once they pass out of the baby stage.
If Petie is around 4 months old, he will be coming into "puberty" and moodiness is quite normal as his hormones begin kicking in.
It's excellent that you are giving Petie a good variety in his diet to include pellets, vegetables, sprouts and a good quality seed mix.
I'm sure Petie is going to love having a new palace when it arrives!
We'd love to see pictures when you have it all set up and Petie has taken up residence.
