Default Nail dilemma

hello guys!

managed to get pretty far with my lil budgie :3
who have read my previous post might remember the dossier thing. well it is out of the way completely! we managed to improve it by me changin my room (it was darn hard but worth it), and now i manage to slide a ladder before the cupboard. so the situation is like a Benny Hill music show with me running up and down on the ladder (and im so-o-o afraid of heights) with him either on my shoulder or on my finger and try to get him in the cage. he doesnt get scared this way and even it takes like 20 mins its still worth it! (but i'll never forget his face when he saw me up there for the first time) i'm not forcing him it's his pace. like a snail XD i usually don't let him out when i know im about to leave in a short time, but this lil featherball is quite a Huddini and slips out. i'm also trying harder on the step up training. but still won't eat anythin from my hand
I'm very happy though! he comes to me on his own now, and still afraid of my hands sometimes, but other times he nodes his head, pupil widening and narrowing and chriping happy. jumps on my hand and tries to chew my nails off! ouch! hops on my head and glasses too. slooowly but improving!

but! i have a BIG problem.
his nails. are long. theres wood in the cage, thick elastic colorful ropes, wooden ladder, but his nails are big i have to get him to the vet to cut it. but! they said i have to hold him, they wont and here's their reason: if someoone else holds the bird other then the owner, it might die of shock. when he was caughing a lot I took him to another vet which is faaar away and needs weeks to get an appointment if not an emergency. so i'd rather take him to a close vet whose in the next house. that (the faaar away) doctor took him out with bare hands (no gloves) and treated him very well! and the medicine he gave him worked! he's all fine and a healthy boy ever since
the closer vet however... i could hold him, he would bite im sure, but.. i'm afraid he WILL hate me for it :'( he wouldn't know this is for his own good, he would only remember: "she held me down and i was tortured!!! hands are baaad i was right!"
If the vet could hold it he would hold a grudge againts him and not me I think..
What should i do?! any tips?? I'll try and talk to the vets again maybe they change mind i dunno.. i worked soo hard for his trust. i dont wanna ruin it

in 2 weeks time ill be off another week long vacation and i'll ask the pet store owners to watch out for him, so he'll be angry with me again.. I don't want to add the vet advanture (torture for him) to the list..

appreciate the given help in advance!!!
thanks Nashisa

ps: i'm not writing my birds' name down because it's sounds silly in english and in my language it wont say anything in english but in mine its an adorable name :3

The best thing to do is to catch your budgie in a soft cloth so he doesn't associate the experience with your hands.
Hold him carefully and allow the vet to do the nail trim.

When you leave your budgie at the pet store, will he be quarantined away from any other birds?
I'm asking because I would personally be concerned about any airborne illnesses he might catch while there.

hm.. sounds like a good idea FaeryBee it might work! i'll try to talk "sense" to the vets first however

he will have his own cage, and won't be in touch with other birds (he wasn't at last time either) he cold only hear them. i doubt they could 100% quarantin it though but i dunno anyone to trust him too my mom could feed it, but he would be alone all day long for more than a week. there my friends would attend to him daily and won't be bored so that my best bet. my bgf could care for her but the taxi to her place there and back would cost like a small vacation fee :'(

As long as he is in his own cage and far enough away from the other birds that he can only hear them he should be just fine.

update on news: managed to convince the vet and her assistant to do the nail clipping without me holding him! also managed to get a few thicker branches and rearranged the cage a bit. he's scared to step on them yet XD

I'm so glad that everything went well at the vet's! I'm sure he'll like his new perches once he builds up the courage to step on them

Great, I'm glad to read that it all worked out well . Although it depends a lot on individual personality whether or not a bird holds a grudge, you'll find that many birds are quite forgiving. Two of my birds really surprised me. Mink my female budgie had to be handled and given medicine (which she hated) twice a day for a week. She stepped up every time for me regardless, and didn't hold a grudge! One of my parrots who is fearful of being handled had to be caught to go to the vet for emergency once, and to my surprise the experience did not make him any more skittish thankfully. You just never know .

Great -- I'm glad things worked out.
Hopefully he'll decide his new perches are safe soon.
