Question Very thin red 'eyeliner' around budgie's eyes at Petco?

What do you think that is? It's a very precise red thin line around black eyed and red eyed budgies. It's like if you put red eyeliner on a budgie. Very strange. All I see when I google it is red splotches on budgie's eyes but that's not it. It's not smudged, it's a very smooth and neatly looking red line that encircles the whole eye.

Welcome to the forums!

Do happen to know if these budgies have the surrounding area of the eyes showing the bare skin?
Unless they are suffering from some kind eye inflammation, those circles you mention aren't normal and all I can think of is that they could have been "dyed" on purpose.
If this was from a result of a fight or trauma from a night firght, you would only see a red spot from the injury.

In this case, a photo would really be helpful.

Hi there and to the forums!

I do agree with Aluz that it's very strange to hear that, and a picture really would help. Other than that I have no further ideas

However, it's great to have you on the forums and we look forward to seeing you around!

Be sure to read through all the links provided to ensure you're up to date on the very best of budgie care and practices! If you have any questions after that, don't hesitate to ask as we'd love to help

Cheers!

Hi and

I agree we'd need a pic to accurately see what you're seeing on these budgies. At any rate, if you have another option, it is always 'best' to purchase your budgies from a responsible private breeder or independent store who gets their budgies from a responsible source.

Do you have a budgie(s) now, or are you looking to get one? See you around .
