my 2 budgies have two mirrors with bells, sometimes I remove them for cleaning or when they spend too much time with the mirrors. & i used to remove them every night, so they would stop talking.
in the morning i would jingle the bells of the mirrors and say"mirror friend, mirror friend" and my 2 birds would chatter away excitedly to see their "mirror friends"
a few months ago i put in a larger mirror, left it in the cage permanently & i sort of forgot about "mirror friends" & left them in a drawer. 3 days ago
I took out the big mirror for cleaner & I jingled the bells of "mirror friend" and put it in the cage, Skylar RAN to the bells, jingled them himself, looked at me and clear as day said"mirror mirror"
. I was shocked, that is a hard word to say! he has continued to say it & if i jingle the bells and say "mirror friend" he will say mirror too. these r the first words I have understood from Skylar & he is 4 years old.
KOKO is also 4 years old & recently started saying I love you after their cage was left in the spare room for a week. (we had cleaned the carpet & moved their cage for awhile, into a room we dont often go into). Once I brought them back into our room Koko said "I love you" & continues to say it! he MISSED US!
Just goes to show if motivated they will talk even with 2 in the cage
I LOVEEE my little munchkins!
