Default New Budgies Rupert And Angelina/Angel

Hi. I wanted to talk about the new budgies I got three days ago from a small petland shop. Their both young. Their small and have bars to their ceres. One is dark green, yellow with black and a lighter green stomach. The other is light yellow with light sky blue and sort of white. I named the green budgie Rupert and the sky blue budgie my nephew named Angel. If it's a girl the name will be changed to Angelina. Right now their chirping a bit and eating their seeds and to my surprise Rupert is playing with his beads mirror now. I noticed him on it when I was gone but when I came up to the cage they left the mirror. Guess their comfortable now.Even Angelina seems to be interested in the mirror.

So far they have been getting along like brother and sister even though they were in different cages when I bought them. When I first got them they were always close together and so quiet. Now they seem to be more open but still scared at times. I tried giving them a organic Gala apple piece yesterday but they did not eat it. Than today I tried feeding them 1 organic spinach but they were afraid of it. Rupert did worry me a bit at certain times. Like when I left the leaf in his chest was moving fast and he was breathing from his mouth. There were no clicking noises or hard core tail bobbing. Although I do notice a slight tail movement in both of them. Wow. Now they are chirping and squawking next to me. I'm surprised because they only did this when i was out of the room till now.

Anyways about Rupert again I was worried he was sick because he was breathing through his mouth and had a fast chest movement. I think its possible for Budgies to do so when they are scared but idk for sure. He did it on the first day, yesterday at times. But I think he did it yesterday because my dad moved them to my room. I plan on getting them checked by an avian vet when I get the rest of my leftover money from college. Yeah I'm in college now and...I bought them with my book money.^^" But that was because I had money left over. Also, I think my light blue budgie is a very light rainbow budgie.

I will post a picture when I can.

Congratulations on your new budgie friends!

When budgies aren't familiar with a certain object, person or even food item they can get scared and stressed and this will manifest by heaving breathing and at times also panting.
Since your budgies are very new and in the process of getting settled in their new home, you can cover their cage on 3 sides (leaving front part uncovered) and have some music on for them.

We would love to see some pics of your budgies.
For gender confirmation, try to post a frontal shot in natural lighting (no flash from camera) showing the whole beak/cere area.

Best of luck with them!

Congratulations on your new budgies.
I'll be looking forward to meeting Rupert and Angel when you are able to post some pictures of them.

It's excellent that you are planning to take them in to see an Avian Vet for a checkup.
You'll also want to be sure to set up an "emergency" fund for them in case there are any unexpected Avian Vet visits needed in the future.

Best wishes to you, Rupert and Angel!

Thanks for the advice and info. That's good to know. I remembered to cover the cage like that when i first got them. I even put some piano and music for them which I think they liked.^.^ I will post some pics now.

Thanks! I will post some pics now. I forgot about keeping an emergency fund though.I will keep that in mind so thanks for mentioning it. I think I read the thread about avian expenses too but it would be good to review it. : 3

A pic from yesterday.I'm going to leave this one here since its not blurry.

Nvm about the age and gender. I checked online and I think Rupert really is a boy because it looks pinkish, purple in the light and Angelina's cere is white with light blue.

They are beautiful! Congratulations on your new friends

Yes, I agree with you on the gender I would say that Rupert is a Dark Green Normal budgie and Angelina is a sky blue yellowface II greywing budgie For her to be rainbow, she'd have to be fullbody greywing or clearwing and opaline, as well.
