I was able to get some better photos than when I originally posted a couple weeks ago.
My bird is a Colbalt Greywing with Pink Feet & blue suffusion in the feathers. ( Which, the suffusion doesn't show up very well in photos & you can't really see it here.) Someone suggested that my bird might have some Recessive Pied and / or Opaline in there somewhere. Where, the Recessive Pied would give the pink feet, and the Opaline would give the suffusion of blue in the feathers of the Greywing. (Where, true Greywings don't have the suffusion in the feathers.)
About two weeks ago, Aluz thought he was about 5 - 6 months old. I was glad to hear he might be younger than the 8 or 9 months I was considering.
With these better pics... does he still seem in the 5 - 6 month old range? [ At what age would his Iris go more white? ]
These pics are perfect, no doubt your budgie is 100% male and looking at him I'd say he is 5 months old. The cere has the deeper purplish colour that young males have just when the colour is about to transition to the mature royal blue colour which generally happens at 6 months of age.
The irises are also a dark grey colour corroborating his young age.
Your budgie is truly gorgeous!
RIP sweet Tito (Summer 2008 - January 17th 2013).
You are missed and never will be forgotten.
aww.... thanks Aluz - ! I'm having a great time reading posts on here and learning about budgies. Thanks to you and all the moderators and experts on here that take the time. .....He's a great bird. Has been relatively trusting and cooperative, & he is just a pet store bird that was "free" with the purchase of a cage kit. I feel like I rescued him to a degree, because they had about 20 or more birds and one of the employees told me only sell one or two per month. ....I was in the store yesterday, & a man was buying 3 for his family so that was nice to see. Seemed like they were going to a good home. He bought the largest cage too. : )
I made a before and after of my 5 month-old budgie's cere progression over the past 3 weeks. (Which is how long I've had him.) If only I were better at using my camera when I first brought him home.
The first photo on top shows the day I brought him home... about 3 weeks ago. The bottom photo is today.
As Aluz described, this shows how his male cere is transforming from a purple color, to more of a true blue / royal blue mature color. You can see the more mature blue coloring around the nostrils. While the bottom part of his cere today, is less blue and more purple. So it's all sort of two-tone now (purple on the bottom & blue on top) and will be entirely blue at some point in the coming weeks.
Also interesting to see how it has grown, filled out, it's less flat, and more round.
