Default My budgie can't/won't fly.

So I went today to the petshop to get a female budgie, because my I already had a male one and everybody I knew told me that I should buy a pair for mine, and so I did. At the store the lady there told me that all the budgies there were young and so I picked one from there. When i got home and placed my budgie in the bird cage she was walking around the floor of the cage and I thought that maybe she was scared, but after 15 min I noticed that she started picking food that was on the floor instead of jumping to the food trays that have seeds in them. And i'm thinking that maybe she can't fly and the only other reason that is coming to my mind is maybe she doesn't know how to fly, but she looks as big as the male budgie that I have and he know how to fly. Maybe you can tell me if she has something wrong or I'm just imagining things.

Welcome to the forums!

When bringing home a new budgie, it's always best to follow quarantine procedures in order to avoid a potential illness to be spread to your other budgie.
This link has detailed information on the subject: https://talkbudgies.com/new-budgie-ar...necessary.html

Even for budgies who are unable to fly, they can still use their legs and beaks to climb on the cage's bars to reach the perches and they also have the ability to jump between perches.
From the photo, I'm not seeing anything abnormal with your albino budgie.

Your new budgie may be a bit confused and not used to being on a circular cage. These cages aren't really suitable to house budgies (or other species of pet birds) because the chances of the birds to feel more insecure (due to the lack of corners) and stressed are higher.
Please be sure to check this section so that you have a better idea on suitable cages for budgies: Housing for Budgies - Talk Budgies Forums

Also there is no need to line the cage with sand, if ingested this in the long run can cause health problems to your budgies. You can line the cage with plain newspaper.

Since you seem relatively new to budgies, the several articles and sticky threads located at the top of each section of the forums will be extremely useful and of benefit to you and your budgies.

Best of luck with everything!

Hi there and to the forums!

Aluz has offered you excellent advice. It's important to follow quarantine not only to prevent the spread of possible illnesses, but also to give the new budgie a chance to settle into her new home.

Be sure to read through the forum's Budgie Articles as well as the "stickies" (threads "stuck" to the top of each subforum for easy access) to ensure you're up to date on the best budgie care! If you have any questions afterwards, please do ask as we'd love to help.

New budgies are quite scared when they first come home they often will do nothing sitting still. Your new budgie will need time to adjust. I also agree you should be quarantining your new bird.
Kitchen paper or newspaper are great in the bottom of the cage. Please read the links provided they will help you learn a lot of vital information.
