Bell Round-Up -- Are these bells safe?

5 Attachment(s)
Here are pics of bells that are on all the toys I have.

I accidentally today bought one of those stupid millet holders that turn out to be vary dangerous per this forum. The one with a cone shape and two flimsy perches on either side. [ i.e. budgies have got their head stuck in them at the top... and there may be other stories of bad things happening. ]

I am wondering if I can salvage the bells on the holder, as like all other birds, my guy loves bells.

I was thinking I could save the bells and maybe tie them on to natural sisal twine.

Thoughts?

Also...are the bells in all of these pics ok? I know that "Jingle Bells" are definitely out.... but these are all cowbells. Do they make the cut...?

Thx....

Those bells are safe as they don't pose an immediate danger to your budgie's physical health. To be 100% safe, you would have to know which material the bells are made of and if you see your budgie licking the surface of any of the bells it would be best to replace them for stainless steel ones, as these are completely safe.
At the first signs of rust, the bells should be replaced for new ones.

These are what my budgie has in his cage. He has 3 and he loves them! I would use stainless steel chain rather than the twine because of the risk of ingestion.

The bells in the third and forth pictures concern me because they look as if they may be made from copper.
Copper is toxic and can cause heavy metal poisoning in birds.
I wouldn't risk using those two if it were me.

Thanks everyone. . . tons of great advice here. . . .Is anyone aware of a site that sells toys with bells that assures the metal bells are made from a safe, non toxic metal? My bird loves all these bells and "eats" them a lot. He puts his mouth and tongue all over them.
