Default Toe Tapping Only When Tired (Scaly Leg Mites? Pics Enclosed)

When my budgie is sleepy, he taps both of his feet back and forth. It doesn't appear to be one more than the other, and I don't see any symptoms on anything else... he otherwise seems quite healthy.

Any idea what this little toe tapping jig could be about? He does it for a long time but only when tired...

My budgies have never exhibited this toe tapping you have described.
Does your budgie toe tap also when he is about to nap during the day or is it just during bedtime? Does he seem bothered while doing the toe tapping?

It seems to accompany any tired behavior.... any time of the day. So it comes along with naps and sometimes also at bed time. (It sort of reminds me of a tired toddler who is trying to stay awake.)

I looked at his feet and they are healthy on the bottom... no sores or anything... and he has always had a wide variety of wooden perches of different widths. His legs seem a tiny bit "dry" but not too scaly and nothing that seems out of the ordinary.

I tested to see if he does this on all surfaces and he does --- when he's sleepy. On my finger, on a perch, on a flat leather book, on the arm of a couch... he does it on all.

I guess I can just keep a close eye on it.

Here's a video of him doing it about 2 weeks ago. You can forward to about the :45 sec mark to see where I panned back to capture that. You'll also see he puts in a yawn. https://www.dropbox.com/home?preview...916_152418.mp4

(*Also that plastic perch in the background was only there for a few days and it's gone now. It was a placeholder while I was awtg. some additional wooden perches that I'd ordered online.)

I was unable to watch your video. It's good that the feet look normal, have no sores and there are no visible signs of leg mites.

This would be a good subject to address on the next avian vet appointment.
Hopefully the vet will be able to shed some light on this.

Thanks, Aluz. Will definitely ask the vet.

Default Pics -- Closer look at the tops of his feet...

I had examined the bottom of his feet and they looked healthy... upon a closer look at the tops of his feet.... the one on the right seems scaly on the knuckle.

Does this look like anything to you? There are (3) photos of his right foot... and one photo of his left foot, which doesn't look scaly on the knuckle.

His little foot does seem to be rather scaly.
Have you taken him to the Avian Vet?

You can try rubbing a little olive oil on his foot to see if that will help to soothe the itchiness until you can have him treated with Ivermectin.

Hi...

I've not taken him to the vet yet... but will be calling on Monday re. appointments. There's an avian vet not too far away. I will try the olive oil. I assume Ivermectin is only available from the avian vet...?

Thx...
