Eye pinning

I'm curious about why Tink's eye looks this way. He doesn't just have small pupils when he is excited or nervous. He always has a lot of white showing.

If I compare him to Frightful (who is close to the same age), Frightful's eyes are very solid and black.

Do some budgies just have eyes like that, or is it something weird? :green budgie:

There is nothing weird or wrong with your budgie.
Tink already has his irises fully developed (white irises), this is a common trait in most adult budgies (1 year+ old). It seems Tink happened to develop his a little sooner.

Because Frightful is a recessive pied budgie, the irises will never develop.
Frightful will keep the baby look on the eyes and if he is a male, he will also keep the immature pinkish colour on the cere for the rest of his life.

Thanks for your expertise! I had no idea it had to do with genetics. I loathed my genetics class that I had to take in college, but I'm finding myself actually interested in budgie genetics, though I wouldn't want to breed them. I think Tink's big irises make him look like a little old man!

He is such a sweet little guy. Are darker colored feet also a genetic trait in some budgies? Because Tink's feet and nails are a little darker than all the rest of my budgies who all have pink feet and light nails. I'm always scared to trim Tink's nails because i can't see the vein.
