Hello everyone!! So sorry in advance for the LONG post! You can skip to the end if you like
I just wanted to show you how things are going with my 3 boys. I introduced them on Monday after Oscar had been in quarantine for 32 days. I wanted to go longer with him but I really needed to consider his mental health as well. He appeared to be healthy, eating and drinking well, healthy poo's, good flying, preening nicely etc etc. However, quarantine in the spare room all alone was making him show signs of depression and frustration, often pacing back and forth on his perch or repeatedly hopping from one to the other in a sequence. He had come from a packed aviary to a life of solitude. I strongly encourage quarantine to my Instagram followers however many of them get put off in the first few days because of the boredom - I hope they never regret their lack of patience!
Anyway! So Monday, I brought Oscar into the living room and put his cage next to Reggie and Busters. Instant attraction haha. Reggie is so incredibly friendly, he flung himself to the side of the cage (as he did with Buster) and literally could not contain his excitement. He hopped around the cage over and over chirping away with his little puffed up head. Poor Buster often got mini attacks from Reggie because he appeared to be so excited. I left them for a few hours like this to chat to each other. Little Buster appeared to be a little stressed, breathing quite heavily sitting at the back of the cage. It seemed he wanted comfort from Reggie, his brother and friend, only instead he was completely shunned
I knew Reggie and Buster would welcome Oscar happily, and Oscar is a gentle giant, so I let them all out together. Reggie is such a tart, he genuinely loves everyone - budgie or human - he ever meets (he has previously met my friends budgie and they were best friends in 5 minutes) He was the happiest, hoppiest curtest birdy at the party. Oscar was so chilled out, these exhibition budgies crack me up! He must have wondered what on earth Reggie was doing. Buster didn't have quite as much fun as the others, whilst Reggie welcomes anyone he meets into the gang, its often not so much fun for Buster. I really believe that Reggie just got too excited and wanted to keep the newbie all to himself, so I had to intervene a few times and ensure that Buster was placed with them without Reggie shooing him off. Reggie did exactly the same with my friends budgie, he would chase Buster off, but when I returned after my holiday to pick them up, Buster was the one playing with the other budgie and Reggie was back to wanting human interaction. I just love how they all have such different personalities!
Yesterday I sadly couldn't get them out at all as I was out all day, but they would have had all day to chat to each other and get to know one another. This afternoon it will be full on play time - I'm hoping my boys will show Oscar how to eat his vegetables too.
It went as i expected, and all three seem happy. Reggie came to me for kisses and comfort (He puts his head under my nose and closes his eyes), he really is so bonded to humans its amazing.
I've attached some photos of all three.
