Default I never ever expected to see this: my bird decided to take a bath

My budgie never wanted anything to do with water, and I've tried it all. [ sink w/ low faucet, dishes with wet produce leaves (romaine, then kale)... shallow bird bath dish... ] He wanted nothing to do with any of it, so I ended up just misting him from time-to-time ... which he didn't seem to enjoy much. [ Just letting the mist fall on him. ]

I just thought he would be one of those birds that never wanted anything to do with water.

I had taken the cover off his water dish today (normally it's on).... and to my surprise, he tried to take a bath in his water dish:

I hope you can see that video... I haven't had luck uploading video to photobucket.

I removed the water dish because I didn't want him to drown.... and I put in a shallow bird bath I bought [ like attached picture. ]

But, his bathing was done by then... he wasn't interested in the bird bath dish.

Haha! My budgies do this too, they will not take a bath in a bigger bowl, they only take baths in their water dishes for some reason. I'm sure that he feels clean and fresh now.

Your little guy looks adorable and quite pleased with himself for having enjoyed his very first bath!

A couple of my birds prefer to bath in their water dish instead of their bath tub too!
I let them do as they like and then just change the water.

ha... he kind of does, doesn't he? He has lots of attitude and wants to do it *his* way. Fair enough.

I'm totally cool with this ... however, I'm a bit admittedly neurotic with my safety worries. Is it safe enough? That dish is over there in the corner and those wings are whipping all over the place. ... As well, the water is probably about 2 inches deep maybe? 1" & 3/4" approx.?

I guess I could worry about it... or trust him that he knows what he's doing...?

I hope he feels more refreshed.

That's adorable! My girl only will take baths in her water bowl, period. I tried to give her other options but she refuses

Because I never know when her bathing mood will strike, I only fill her water bowl up to about an inch

Haha so cute. One of my budgies, Hermes, LOVES his baths...and thankfully he actually uses the bath I give him. Izzy, on the other hand, hasn't quite acquired an affection for bathing...Hermes is still working on showing her how fun it could be!

That's hilarious though that your little guy thought his water dish was a more suitable bath for him...grass is greener on the other side...water's bluer in the other dish???

Haha that's pretty funny, my budgie didn't like her little bird bath either but she loves sitting under the running tap, just gently though

I'm going to keep trying different things as time goes to see if he takes to anything. I've offered him a few different dishes, bowls, baths, since he took the dip in his feeding dish... but no interest. I'm probably going to mist him again in awhile.
