Littlebrook is on a distinguished road
Default Cage fever

I have a budgie, who currently resides in an aviary with other budgies, who very much dislikes being in an ordinary birdcage. I'm not sure why but she climbs to the roof of the cage and hangs off it with her beak whenever she was inside the cage. It was quite distressing to see my bird doing this so I would immediately remove her from the cage, which was often, does anyone else have this problem with their budgie or other bird, and is there a way to prevent my budgie from wanting to hang onto the roof?

Does she seem stressed out while in the cage? How big is this cage?
Some budgies (especially the younger ones) are more into acrobatics and will often play by climbing onto the cage and at times even standing on top the the cage's ceilings and pretend to be bats.

If you truly believe by looking at your budgie's body language and general behaviour that she feels discomfort and deep anxiety while in the cage, then you can work with her in terms of making your budgie realize the cage is a fun and safe place to be. Covering the cage on 3 sides (leaving the front part uncovered) will also make your budgie feel safer. Having some soothing music on for her will also help in terms of decreasing her stress levels.

You can use one of your calmer and more well adjusted budgies to help her out in accepting the cage. You can also work with your budgie by using positive reinforcement techniques that reward good behaviour:

By doing short sessions (15 - 20 minutes) with her inside the cage and offering her some of her favourite food treats and to have a couple of her favourite toys on the cage and encouraging her to play with them will help her in realizing the cage is not such a bad place after all.

Good luck with everything!

RIP sweet Tito (Summer 2008 - January 17th 2013).
You are missed and never will be forgotten.
