My new baby budgie 'Mars' and his companion 'Moonshine' are so much fun to watch. The latest behavior worth noting is from Mars. He 'grumbles' when you talk to them, and stops when you stop. As if he is saying 'Nobody will make noise unless it's me!'. He constantly grumbles and squeeks while 'Disco The Parakeet' on youtube is talking, and stops whenever Disco stops. It seems to be a competition, as if he doesn't want to be outspoken by any other bird/person in front of his mate Moonshine. So I decided since he is so vocal, I would play the Disco youtube playlists during the day in hopes that he will pick up some words. He absolutely hates to be quiet while people or disco are talking. I really believe he wants to show off to Moonshine and let her know HE is in charge of the sounds in the house. Anyone have any thoughts on my theory? Anyone else using 'Disco The Parakeet' as a teaching tool? Disco is awesome.
I have attached a video of Mars chatting away while Disco plays in the background. The only time Mars is quiet, is when the room is quiet.....all day it is like this. I can't talk on the phone or to visitors without him grumbling/squeeking over me. So funny.
That's really sweet that Mars wants to chatter so much.
Budgies feel more secure and happy when there's other noise happening, so sometimes if I have the TV on and then pause it, all of the chatter stops straight away. Usually once they get going there's no stopping them.
Having something playing for them all day is perfect for them and having it be Disco can't hurt at all.
