How is best to deal with Budgie squabbling?

Hi all!

So after having our lovely pair for a few months now we have come to learn that the odd squabble is almost inevitable.

We have 2 of everything and the cage is balanced. Both get to eat, drink, play, fly, have treats ect. Everything is as fair as we can make it but even so we sometimes get the odd little bicker.

Deacon, the male, sometimes seems to go looking for it. He will go to Rayna's (the female) perch while she is off eating or deliberately eat out of her food bowl. He even looks up at her while he does it! Then she has a swipe at him, they have a little beak off, run away, then go back to preening and loving each other.

Fighting never lasts more than a few seconds and no serious aggression is ever shown. Can I stress they are juvenile and siblings. If we are around and it seems like it's going on for too long we have been told that snapping our thumb and middle finger behind our back is a good distraction for them. This way they don't associate the hand with anything negative and it's a noise they hear that makes them stop and wonder where it's coming from.

What are your thoughts? I know some will say separation is a possibility but that seems way too drastic for what is just a little tussle and when they are quite happy to preen each other seconds after.

Occasional bickering is quite normal.
As long as neither budgie is bullying the other on an on-going basis nor showing true aggression, you have nothing to worry about. :)
