Today was cage cleaning day. I saved Hedwig's new cage for last since it wasn't too dirty. Just wanted to change the paper towels because she likes to kick her food out of the bowl and eat off the ground.
Her cage has a pull out tray. All my boys have been in that cage before for a period of time. Never had any problems. I pulled out her tray, walked to the trash can to throw away the paper towels and to grab the news ones. I was gone for less than 10 seconds (wasn't in need of a wipe down). She managed to squeeze herself out of the tray slot. Come back around the corner to a white blur streaking past my face.
She's a sneaky little girl. And now she knows a hole can be there, so she is pacing back and forth by it, attempting to push it out with her beak.
I may have to turn the cage so all doors/slots are facing the wall!
I don't think she can open anything really. The front door has a bar that hooks in two spots. Food and water doors slide up, and to be honest, I have problems with them.
Getting her back into the cage is always a pain too. She latches onto my finger with her feet death grip and then bites reaaaaally hard. Won't let go so I have to basically pry my finger free.
I did let her out for a while in a small room while I set up her new toys. If you get near her cage, she jumps onto the door thinking she is being sneaky. Thinking she's going to try to hitch a ride on her food/water dish when I take them out next time.
HA HA she sounds like she is going to be loads of fun. my guys all love being out for free time, they now know they can go back ad they simply go in and out as they please except for when I am going out of course the doors are shut then.
My budgie Indigo has opened the door and got out so I have to put something on the door so he doesn't open it. Je has also got out while I was cleaning out his cage. My boy is so clever. He flips the door of his cage up and down.
She did try to get out with her water bowl when I was changing the water. Luckily, I am starting to catch on to her little tricks. I did let her out in the small room again for about a hour. She had a grand time exploring every inch if it, but put up a fight to go back in the cage. I would have kept her out longer, but I had to make lunch for my human kids and didn't want to leave her alone. She is pouting now about it.
